Eminem and D-12 are here to stay whether you like it or not,

This review is from: Devil's Night (Audio CD)
Mr. Slim Shady did not get my attention until I heard "Guilty Conscience" w/Dr. Dre. He earned my respect with "If I Get Locked Up" from Funkmaster Flex's and Big Kap's "The Tunnel" CD. Although he may rap about controversional lyrics and sick diversions, Eminem has plenty of skill to back whatever he says up. On the "Marshall Mathers LP", which is still a CD to remember almost 11 months after it was released, Eminem left all people who said he couldn't do it again in disbelief. With songs like "Stan" w/Dido, "The Way I Am", "I'm Back" and "Kill You", Eminem showed that he was a force to be reckoned with and his album sales are more than 7 times platinum and rising. With "Devil's Night", it seems like Eminem is trying to get the same respect for D-12 that he already has for himself. Mission: Accomplished. "Devil's Night" has to be one of the best releases in 2001. All of the members of D-12 go blow to blow with Eminem on the whole CD. Production is mainly handled by Eminem and Dr. Dre lends his assistance to 3 tracks as well. Now I will admit while D-12 has skills and I can handle everything they have to say, some of the subject matter will be displeasing to some people. What you have to understand is that this what D-12 is all about. If Eminem has been able to maintain his success by staying true to what he does, so should D-12. The 1st single speaks of what I am talking about: "Purple Pills" is an excellent, well crafted song by D-12 but some people will find the lyrics very offensive. I am able to separate what they are talking about and the actual skill of putting the song together so the material is not offensive to me. The whole CD is based on what I am talking about but the skill level is definitely up to par: The Dr. Dre produced "Fight Music", "Devil's Night", "Pistol, Pistol" and "Pimp Like Me" are also examples of this but the tracks are tight and very well put together. Take the "Marshall Mathers LP" and add D-12 to each song and that's how this CD sounds. I will have to tell you that Bizarre is going to make some people sick just by himself. However, he is a very skilled MC and he will probably get a solo contract after this CD. Whether you like Eminem or not, this is a good CD to have in your collection. "Devil's Night" will definitely put D-12 on the map.

This is just basically another eminem album but with his buddies along with him. They are less talented than him but still are decent rappers. This cd is very good and it is the best purchase you will make all summer. Even if u dont like Eminem u will like it because he sits back enough on the album to where he lets the rest of his group take control. Plus if u have a system this is a good cd to have. Here are each track reviewed:1. Another Publice Sefvice Announcement- Um its a stupid skit that is funny at first but after a while u will skip over it. 2.Sh*t Can Happen-Is a pretty good song, the chorus is kinda corny though. 3.Pistol Pistol-Is an excellent song. 4.Bizzare-Is a very funny skit. 5.Nasty Mind-Is a hilarious song and good to pump to. 6.Ain't Nuthin But Music-Is a pretty good song. 7.American Phsyco-Is an awsome but weird song. 8.Thats How-Stupid. 9.Thats How-It is a pretty good song and it is good to bump to. 10.Purple Pills-Awsome song. I never get tired of it. It is one of the albums best tracks. 11.Fight Music-Awsome song. One of the albums best songs. 12.Instigator-It is an alright song. It needs Em in it though. 13.Pimp Like Me-The best song out of the whole cd. It is hilarious and has good lyric moments. 14.Blow My Buzz-Awsome song. It has a tight beat too. 15.Obe Trice-Dumb. 16.Devils Night-Pretty good song. It has a dark anthem to it. 17.Steve Berman-Funny. 18.Revelation-I think this is the most shocking song on the record. It is a very good song too. One of the best on the album. 19.Girls-Um its pretty good but its over long and even though it only has Eminem on it, its just a diss and u usually can sing along to disses.

D12 takes rap to the extreme...,

Eminem, you've done it again. Not only have you brought more ill and controversial lyrics to piss the world off, but you brought five friends along to help you do it. You're a genius!I heard "Purple Hills" and I knew right then and there I had to get "Devil's Night". I was anticipating the debut of this CD so I could get my hands on it, and I wasn't disappointed at all. This CD has so many tight songs and dope beats. There is a significance to the two Eminem CDs; there's a public service announcement. But, at least this one has a purpose: If you are easily offended by the content used on this CD, DON'T LISTEN TO IT! If...no...WHEN you buy this CD, the tracks you should listen to first would be "Purple Pills" (duh!), "Instigator", "Pimp Like Me", "Devil's Night", "Revelation", and "Girls" (the hidden bonus track). Those display the talent that these members have, and these songs also make "Devil's Night" worth the money. A lot of Eminem fans are gonna buy this CD, but to your surprise, Eminem is really not included in a lot of these songs. But, that's a better advantage for the other five members to show off their skill. I highly recommend this CD. Trust me, you won't be disappointed, and if you are, then you have no taste in music.

The best rap album of the year,
By A Customer
This review is from: Devil's Night (Audio CD)
Well, Em & Co have done it again. D-12's "Devil's Night" is beautifully constructed melange of eclectic beats, outrageous lyrics, and biting satire. While Em sprouts off his usual brilliant rants, the rest of the crew compliments him perfectly with their own, hillarious rhymes. Be warned: the underlying critique of modern media and illustration of teenage angst are immersed in a veritable swamp of profanity, sexually-deviant references, and violent lyrics. Nevertheless, the album's brilliance lies in its versatility. Take it as a social critique, or use it for a laugh. The drug-anthem "Purple Pills" will "lift" your spirits, and the heart-wrenching, head-banging "Revelation" takes a sobering look into the mind of a suicidal teen. But while the tracks are varied, there is one consistency: the rap is dope.

From Biggie and Junior M.A.F.I.A., Big Pun and Terror Squad, Busta and Flipmode Squad, to Nelly and St. Lunatics, every rap superstar has a crew that is wacker than wack. Eminem's D-12 is no exception. If you're still thinking of rounding out your Eminem collection, then you must really wanna make it complete if you buy this album, Devil's Night.Everyone knows how Eminem's records are, so expect a lot of those same songs on this album. The bad songs aren't even worth mentioning (because that would be the majority of the album), but the very good tracks are: "Fight Music" is easily the winner here with its rocked-out and slammin' beat. But the reason why this album is bad is because the group is in Eminem's shadow for the whole album. They seem to work off of Eminem's "shock rap" formula which is proven to work. With the exception of Eminem and possibly Bizzare, none of the members really prove themselves worthy of holding the mic. Furthermore, at least there's a method to Em's madness; the rest of the group just use shock rap for shock rap's sake. Now, this is not to say that Eminem is the perfect rapper on this album. His self-fueled "Ain't Nuthin' But Music" sounds like a generic remix of "The Real Slim Shady" and "Girls" is a diss to DJ Lethal and Fred Durst, but honestly, haven't we all heard all of Eminem's diss records before? (At least he redeems himself with less disses on The Eminem Show.) I'd say just stick with Eminem's three albums if you wanna feel Shady, but as another reviewer said, if one good MC out of six suits you fine, then buy it. D-12 may make Eminem and his fans proud, but they haven't really shown the rest of us what makes them so great.

THE NEXT LEVEL,

This review is from: Devil's Night (Audio CD)
Anyone who enjoyed Eminem's albums should pick up "Devil's Night" by D12. The lyricist's original "posse" releases their first full-length LP, and it delivers. Tight production by Dre and Eminem himself raise this album above any mediocrity. D-12 are just as obscene and surprising as MarshallMathers himself, constantly shocking with their lyrics (and offending anyone who takes them seriously). Peter S. Bizarre is a twisted mind if I ever heard one. Anyone who talks about eating an abortion, picking up transvestites, or pimping their mother is definitely out there to shock. The album is essentially "Marshall Mathers LP II" one may say, with some common threads running between them...."Ain't Nuthin But Music" is basically "The Real Slim Shady 2" complete with an almost exactly similar beat, catchy rhymes, and Bizarre echoing Eminem's famous line by saying "Eminem don't like *NSync, well I do. So ... him, and the Backstreet Boys too." The song "Pimp Like Me" has a beat that sounds strangely similar to "Forgot About Dre." And, in addition, the Public Service Announcement and Steve Berman skits from Eminem's album are back. D-12 may not sell as many records as Eminem The Solo Artist, but they damn well should.

D12 = Pure Talent,

This review is from: Devil's Night (Audio CD)
This is one of the best rap albums to hit the shelves in a long time. D12 showcase their twisted humor on songs like "Ain't Nuttin' But Music", "Blow my Buzz", and "That's How...". They have songs on this album that should be bumping in dance clubs like "Purple Pills" and "Pimp Like Me". They show their more serious side on tracks like "Pistol Pistol", "Fight Music", "Devils Night", and "Revelation". Every track on this CD is really good. Dr. Dre and/or Eminem produced every track for this CD. Need I say more? Well, one more thing. Track 19 is a "ghost track" and it's an Eminem solo diss song to Everlast and Limp Bizkit. This track officially starts the beef between Eminem and Limp Bizkit. It's a great track and it's worth a good listen or two. If your an Eminem fan go buy this CD! You won't be dissapointed!

This Is my favorite album that I have ever bought! You should buy it right away. I first bought it for Purple Pills and I wasn't disapointed. Almost every song is good and I will rate every song on this album, not skits. A 5 is average.Shit Can Happen- OK the first time but gets old. 6/10 Pistol Pistol- Excellent song that will keep you listening. 9/10 Nasty Mind- Hilarious. Bizarre and D12 at their funniest. 10/10 Ain't Nuttin But Music- Pretty funny, but gets old and doesn't compare in humor to Nasty Mind. 7/10 American Psycho- Very good. Has a nice mix of serious and funny parts. But mostly funny. 9/10 That's how...- Very Very good. A different type of song for a change. Kind of has a cause/effect theme to it. 10/10 Purple Pills- Very good but definitely overplayed. 8/10 Fight Music- Very Cool. It has good lyrics and a smooth beat. Cool topic too. 9/10 Instigator- Swifty's in charge here. Very cool also but is lacking something. 9/10 Pimp Like Me- This is it. The longest track on the cd, and definitely the best. It is my absolute favorite song ever. Can never get old. Just the first minute is D12 at its best, and it doesn't get worse. If you are thinking about buying this album, do it for this track. This song is beyond perfect. 11/10 Blow My Buzz- Very cool song. It has excellent lyrics and will keep you pumped after Pimp Like Me. 10/10 Devil's Night- If you haven't noticed, the songs from 13 on are the album's best. This is excellent and has great "re-listen" value. 10/10 Revelation- My second favorite song on the cd. Leave it to Bizarre to start off this almost-as-good-as-Pimp-Like-me song. But unlike Pimp Like Me it slows down a tiny bit after the start. Girls- A very Offensive song. But it is very good. If you hate Limp Bizkit, you'll love this song. But if you like Limp Bizkit, Now I'll rate the members of D12 Proof- He is good but a little too quiet. He should stand out more. 8/10 Eminem- You've all heard him before. But the reason this is one of the best albums ever is not all him. 9/10 Bizarre- The funniest person ever. Although I don't think his dignity is very good, he should be the next Chris Rock. 11/10 Kon Artis- At parts he stands out a lot, but sometimes he acts too similar to Proof. 9/10 Swifty- This guy is a true rapper. He raps at perfect speed, with the beat at all times. 10/10 Kuniva- He is very cool. Very often, he will sound like the most intelligent member of the group. And is funny when he lectures to Kon Artis in Purple Pills and Blow My Buzz. 10/10 There you have it. D12 is my new favorite group, so go do yourself a favor and buy their album. |
