4.0 out of 5 stars Playing to a deadly tune, October 9, 2007
This review is from: Devil's Orchestra (Paperback)
Review by Tavares S. Carney - "the Christian Page Turner"

Devil's Orchestra - what's in a name? The three main characters in this book - Tab, Deva and Juan definitely make up the devil's orchestra. These three characters definitely played to the tune of their conductor. In this case, the devil. This is a good read for individuals staggering the fence of committing their lives to Christ. Not for the holier than thou crowd due to explicit language and graphic scenes used by the author to vividly illustrate both the acts of sin and the consequences thereof.

The book tackles issues such as greed, media exploitation and "celebrity status" responsibility. The author does a good job in delivering a storyline relative to current societal issues. In a world where people are heavily influenced by media imagery, and while vivid, the examples the author uses communicates a very clear message - We are responsible for the decisions we make in life. We are responsible for our actions, for which there are either good or bad consequences when it's all said and done. The author does a great job of boldly asking - "Who's side are you on?"

Suggested themes: Never forget where you came from. The price of fame. Whose side are you on? God's or the devil's?

4.0 out of 5 stars Choices, February 26, 2011
This review is from: Devil's Orchestra (Paperback)
Devil's Orchestra by Sydney Molare is a story of three strangers, who through an

orchestration of events, each lands in an unknown location, where their lives will be forever

changed.

Tab McGrifth is a radio personality that is at the height of

his career. With his outspoken and no-holds-barred opinions, people either love

him or hate him. Tab could care less; take him or leave him because he is one of

the top radio personalities on the East Coast.

Deva is one of the hottest young artists out. Her music is at that top of the

charts. Being in the public eye, teenagers tend to emulate her and look up to

her as a role model. But Deva never gives thought as to how her actions are

perceived by others.

Juan Rodriguez is one of biggest names within the book industry, the "Golden

Boy" of Ocean House books. His Latin good looks and controversial best-selling

novels are well received within the Gay community. Juan would have never thought

that the words penned on paper would have been so well received or that people

would look to his books as a bible of sorts for an alternative lifestyle.

Devil's Orchestra by Sydney Molare is a very imaginative, thought-provoking

novel. A novel of three people who had little to nothing and were willing to do

anything to get to the height of success. The question is what price will they

have to pay in the long run? Author Sydney Molare is an ingenious writer. I was

first introduced to this author by a short story in the anthology: The Shattered

Glass Effect a book I highly recommend to everyone of all walks of life. Ms.

Molare is truly talented author and I plan to read the rest of her novels in the

very near future.

This book was provided by the author for review purposes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Depicted with vivid descriptions...a gripping story that readers won't forget!, July 10, 2006
This review is from: Devil's Orchestra (Paperback)
"A significant message of consequence is provided in Devil's Orchestra. It's a chilling reality check that will generate deep thought. This frightening novel is depicted with vivid descriptions that paint a realistic view of life on the dark side. Devil's Orchestra is an attention-grabbing tale of three individuals who hungered for money, power and prestige. So much so, that they inadvertently sold their souls to the devil."

"Tab McGrifth, a top radio personality and host of Living Life As Your Right; used his position to cast judgments against individuals that he deemed as being beneath him. A racist, who used his power in the community to further his agenda."

"Deva known as the hip-hop princess; has reached the pinnacle of success by stepping on a few people in her life to gain popularity. She turned her back on her family and didn't make time in her life to worship God. In addition, Deva's music, videos, and antics are delivering messages to young people that are questionable."

"Juan Rodriquez, a best-selling author who is gay and lives in a committed relationship with his partner Zeus and their son Loam. His novels reflect stories surrounding the homosexual lifestyle. He is also very vocal about his support for same sex marriages."

"All three characters are strangers to each other, however their paths will cross when they are all invited to meet an old friend. They agree to meet up with their friends at a bar. During this meeting each person relives their past and comes to a horrific realization."

"In the end they must face the music for their life choices. These characters must decide if they want everlasting life or choose to succumb to their lifestyles. This is a gripping story that readers won't forget, definitely a wake up call."

4.0 out of 5 stars Chilling!, June 23, 2006
This review is from: Devil's Orchestra (Paperback)
In my opinion the "Devil's Orchestra" is da bomb, plainly speaking. I think it's Christian fiction with an edge. In the beginning I wondered where these scenarios were going and how she was going to connect three whining characters. The bomb fell in a much later chapter with the appearance of Devil Luke who has come to retrieve his orchestra of bad actors. It gets rough and real from here on out. Luke makes each one live through horrors in nightmare-settings he, the Devil, is going to heap upon them if they don't proclaim to heaven that he is the Master of their souls. Chilling descriptions!

Bottom line it's cleverly handled and well written. Congratulations, Sydney Molare. I'm waiting for your next one. I'd give "Devil's Orchestra" 4 ½ stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slamming New Book, May 20, 2006
This review is from: Devil's Orchestra (Paperback)
The story is centered around three character's. Deva the rock star who used a breast baring stunt to widen her fan base, Tab the Christan radio host and a racist that feels that it is his life's mission too improve the moral standards of America.

Juan the gay writer and the one thing that they have in common is that they all received invites for an evening at an out of the way bar called The Shoat's Head Bar.

All three got their invites from people that they had known in the past. Each celebrity is outraged when these people that they thought they were on good terms with began pointing out their character flaws. So they try to leave the Shoats Head bar and they are stopped by the sudden appearance of Luke who reminds them that they have made deals with him.

Without telling you the whole story guess who Luke is and be careful of what you say without thinking because you might be making a pact that you don't want to. This book has a fresh story line and I loved it. I was drawn into the story from page one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Leaves your wondering, December 17, 2006
This review is from: Devil's Orchestra (Paperback)
Reviewed by Regan Windsor for Reader Views (11/06)

Have you ever made an offhanded "deal with the devil?" What if he came by to collect? Would you take fame and fortune at any cost? These are all key questions in "Devil's Orchestra."

Tab McGrifth is the top radio personality on the East Coast. He is much sought after by advertisers and not afraid to demand a big price. He is strongly opinionated and not afraid to use his power to get what he wants. No harm in that? Or is there? When his old mentor calls and asks him to meet at a secluded pub he is intrigued.

Deva, just your average highly paid and underdressed rock star, is willing to go to any lengths to grab the attention and publicity that makes her album sales soar. Is there such thing as too far? When she gets a call from an old school friend she hadn't seen in years she is excited by the prospect of him still wanting her. He suggests meeting at a more secluded pub where she won't be recognized.

Juan Rodriguez is a highly successful and highly controversial gay writer. An involved activist in gay rights, he can be considered a leader in the movement. Happily living with his partner and their son, he is shocked when an email arrives from his first lover. A lover that treated him bad....took his love and used and abused it. Why now? And why was he finding himself heading to the suggested pub; a secluded, run down, out of the way pub.

"Devil's Orchestra" will have your attention from the first page and keep you in awe until long after you have flipped the last page. Full of suspense and intrigue it will leave you taking a long hard look at the impact your life may have on others. And more importantly leave your wondering -- have you made any deals with the devil?!
