Beautiful and Chilling all in one wonderful soundtrack,
By
This review is from: The Devil's Own (1997 Film) (Audio CD)
Most of this soundtrack was beautiful wispy Ireland music that reminds me of lazy sunshine and long grass waving in the wind. Gorgeous music. Track number 3 is really very chilling to me...I can listen to it 5 times in a row and still be frightened by how eerie the woman's vocals sound. I love soundtracks that do that to you.

The Devil's Own soundtrack was full of Irish music which, in and of itself, is beautiful, but then knowing where all the pieces go is even better. Melissa Etheridge's song is wonderful. I try to listen to at least one song from the album every day.

Missing song found!,

My previous review lamented the absence of the final song on the movie soundtrack - Melissa Etheridge's "This War Is Over". I have since found this track on her "Your Little Secret" album. I hope the other reviewer with the same lament picks up this information!

Excellent music but not the soundtrack released with the movie. The song "Going Home" is totally different in the movie. I was disappointed since I bought it for that song.

When I discovered that "Devil's Own" and the soundtrack came out in 1997, it struck me that "Titanic" was relesed that same year. As with "Patriot Games", I am struck by the similarities of all of the Horner compositions I've reviewed. Track 6, "Launching the Boat" and Track 8, "The Pool Hall" hae the flavor of lively Irish dances, reminiscent of Gaelic Storm's work on "Titanic". But there are differences. Eric Rigler's Uillean bagpipes, which made an abundance of appearances on "Braveheart" and "Titanic", make only about two cameos here. Neither is the wood flute as dominant as it has been, although the upping of the tension level in "Rory's Arrest" harkens back to "Legends of the Fall", as once again we hear and see in our minds Brad Pitt demonstrating his flair for playing boisterous, impulsive young lads. But I'm not complaining, since I love the sounds of Scotland and the Emerald Isle, and you have to admit that Horner has accomplished a lot in the last ten years with this kind of sound.

The song God Be With You by Dolores O'Riordan of The Cranberries is just amazing. If you are a fan of The Cranberries (and Dolores in particular), then you must have this soundtrack for your collection.

Like another reviewer, I bought this soundtrack CD for the Melissa Etheridge track "This War Is Over", which was not on the CD. Most disappointing. Any way of getting hold of this track?

This is a great, enchanting CD for anyone who enjoys laid back Celtic music. The music on this soundtrack has a way of almost automatically calming your spirit. Very relaxing and very good!! If you are looking for a relaxing CD to use for meditation or for background music as you read, you can't go wrong with this one! 5 Stars!!!

I've been very happy with this CD. I probably enjoy it more because I viewed the DVD.

Beautiful James Horner score.,

I fell in love with the music to this film when I first saw it in the theatres. I have never been a particular fan of James Horner, but I acknowledge him to be competent enough most of the time. So I was a little amazed at how much I loved this score.I bought this CD more specifically for the musical score, since the majority of the soundtrack was written by Horner anyway (though the song "God Be With You", was very good as well). Composer (and Oscar winner) Horner did a wonderful job creating a lilting and melodic Irish sound for this soundtrack. All the music supports the drama of the film masterfully, yet stands alone on its own merits. I find myself listening to this soundtrack a lot. It is a favorite in my (rather substantial) soundtrack collection. Many soundtracks predomantly feature the score (instrumental music), and don't always include other incidental popular songs that were in the film. I was not disappointed that the producers of this CD chose to cram this CD full of Horner's music. It is a beautiful score. Highly recommended. |
