Top Airborne book, December 2, 2006
This review is from: Devil's Own Luck: Pegasus Bridge to the Baltic 1944-45 (Privateersman Mysteries 1) (Paperback)
Most WWII buffs will be familiar with the Pegasus Bridge assault from the Ambrose book, if that is you, then please consider getting this fine book too. Denis Edwards was one of the Coup de Main party who landed by the bridge in Horsa gliders at 12.16am on the morning of D-Day. The fact he was actually there gives this book a great level of authenticity and his easy-going writing style makes it a pleasantly informative read. Of course the book covers far more than the events of D-Day, it continues through to the crossing of the Rhine, which for the Ox and Bucks was every bit as costly as the Normandy campaign.
A fine book, with insights that only the combat soldier can offer.

Absolutely fantastic personal account., June 13, 2011
This review is from: Devil's Own Luck: Pegasus Bridge to the Baltic 1944-45 (Privateersman Mysteries 1) (Paperback)
After reading Pegasus Bridge by Ambrose, which was great no doubt, this was a wholy new experience. A first hand account by a private in Major Howard's D Company that took Pegasus Bridge on D-Day. As it was recorded on a day-by-day basis by the author, it is an incredably accurate and detailed account which gives a very viceral telling of events.
When reading this account you can see what it is named as such, it is a sheer miracle that this man survived the war. It is a great account of the events surrounding Pegasus bridge, but also the training of the airborne forces, and specifically the glider infantry, as well as the gruelling months after D-day, as well as the Ardenne, Rhine crossing etc.
For a real feel for what these men went though, I have never read a better book, get it!

A Good View for Americans., February 17, 2003
I bought this book at the Pegasus Bridge Museum while on a tour of the D-Day battlesites. I was fascinated by our tour guide, a retired British Brigadier, and his stories of Major John Howard. This book adds to most American's views of the D-Day invasion. I recommend this book even though Mr. Edwards is a bit full of himself, as are most "been there done that" combat veterans.
