Biography

For about a year back in the 1970s the Mekons epitomized the risks,
extremes and ludicrous promise of punk rock. It was a different time
f’sure BUT eerily similar to NOW. For a while back THEN the Mekons were
indeed very interested in punk rock but it wore off (for reasons too
obvious & well documented to dwell on here). After the huge success of
their FAST PRODUCT 45s and the reckless, doomed assault… Read more in Amazon's The Mekons Store

4.0 out of 5 stars I like it, March 27, 2000

Not the country Mekons you might be familiar with. You can hear what the band orginally sounded like. This album sounds a lot like early Public Image Ltd. It's very good.

I had this in my music library for a while, before I decided to try out what early Mekons sounded like. I was completely blown away by the quality and innovation in this album. It puts the noise rock of Sonic Youth and the experimental punk of The Liars written up to 25 years later to shame. I can't believe that this album has never received any attention or a re-issue worthy of what it is. Also a shame that the Mekons gave up on this type of sound since they apparently never got the acclaim they deserved for what they did. Here's hoping some indie label will pick this baby up and give it the re-issue it deserves.
