Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

It may seem unlikely that a combination thriller/fantasy/pro-ecological/historical romance would have any resonance, much less coherence, but that is exactly what readers will find in the third installment of Donegan's Atlantis series (Atlantis: Bermuda Triangle). Ex-Green Beret Eric Dane joins forces with sexy scientist Ariana Michelet to uncover the mystery of the Shadows, sinister unseen creatures from another dimension. What makes this episode unique is that Donegan actually describes the Shadow creaturesAwho regrettably resemble the aliens described in countless UFO booksAwhile offering a series of flashbacks to ancient Rome where the brooding gladiator Falco aids a courageous Kaia in her fight against the alien menace that caused the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. All this leads to a showdown between the Shadows and the combined forces of Eric and Ariana, who must prevent the Shadows from blowing up the Pacific Rim, and Falco and Kaia, who team up inside a cloud along with Amelia Earhart. While this may seem outrageous, Donegan weaves these historical and pseudoscientific elements into a coherent whole that satisfies both as a bold page-turner and an enjoyable frolic in the pulp adventure tradition. (Feb. 6) Forecast: Donegan (aka Joe Dalton, Bob McGuire, Robert Doherty) combines his military experience with his love of SF in a series that, fortunately for newcomers, can be read as stand-alone books. Although Donegan is better known for his Area 51 SF thrillers (written as Doherty), this series is steadily building a cult following via word of mouth.

3.0 out of 5 stars It would have been a 5..., March 14, 2011

This is an awesome series. I love the way the writer(s) have fitted in characters from the past. I would have given it a 5, but the editing STINKS! The last time I read something so poorly edited I burned it. Unfortunately I can't (won't) do that to my Kindle. I don't know who re-wrote this series for the Kindle, but they should be shot and then fired! I would bet(hope?)the book form is much better.

If you can see past the mistakes, do keep reading - but what a shame to ruin a terrific read like this.
--------------------------------
"Robert" tells me there is an upgraded version of this book - can anyone tell me how to get it without having to pay for it all over again?

And regarded mistakes? I thought I'd check a couple of chapters - between Chapters 6 thru 10 there were 164 spelling errors or indent mistakes. How is it possible that this could happen? Who is the idiot that wrote it for Kindle? Not one other book I've downloaded onto my Kindle has been like this...EXCEPT for this series. Unbelievable!

I am still reading, but being brought up short like that all the time is just plain wrong. If Kindle needs someone to transcribe books for them, I'm available! Just let me know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stan7's Thoughts, April 25, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Devil's Sea (Atlantis) (Paperback)
This book is very involved. It describes a creature, that some people think is an alien, hidden deep in the Earth that is always trying to destroy it. I enjoyed the book because as it goes on it steadily breaks off into four individual stories. That's what keeps me turning the pages, to see what happens to each group of people. One of my favorite characters in the book is Eric. He is my favorite because he is calm, a leader, and is a great detective. Eric's special power amazes me because it is just like the Ones Before. That's another reason why I like the book, because Eric is down to Earth and tries to have as litttle causualties, even though it is war. But my favorite part in the book is when at the end all of the paths of history start to merge. I like how a book can come together like that.

The series is an excellent one and I have been reading all of them in sequence. But like several other readers I am noting many spelling errors. I bought the book and downloaded it via Whispernet just like all of my other books. I don't know what's going on, but I don't care for it.
