Editorial Reviews

Review

(`Ash/Black Veil' is) a haunting and frenetic cut, it sounds as if Thom Yorke had a lovechild with Four Tet. -- KEXP Blog

Commencing with a gently pulsating hum and concluding with a soothing recollection of rain, Sascha Ring, or rather Apparat, introduces us to the first single off his upcoming The Devil's Walk with no presumption of disarming you. -- Consequence of Sound

Something about Ring's combination of electronic subtleties, soothing vocal melodies, and driving rhythms just speaks to our inner softies. -- XLR8R

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, great packaging January 12, 2012
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
The album itself is very good. You can sample the songs on spotify or youtube, I'll let those speak for themselves. Something the product page does not discuss is the excellent packaging. $11.65 is the cheapest price you will find this vinyl anywhere on the internet, period. It comes with a foil embossed cover, 180 gram vinyl, oversized fold out poster, and the CD version is included for free with the record. If you're hesitating... buy this. Completely worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A modern day musical genius September 27, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
It took a few listens to Apparat's last Solo album "Walls" before I "got it." What I got was one of the most emotionally poignant, expertly composed electronic music I'd ever heard. "Walls" is up there on the list with Dark Side of the Moon for all time favorite albums.

It was with high expectations that I listened to "Devil's Walk." I did not expect a repeat, or even a sequel to Walls, but an evolution. Having listened to it about 4 times now, I'm simply mesmerized. This is Apparat's best album to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars So wonderful I can't stop listening to it October 1, 2011
By Zuzanna
Format:MP3 Music
I can't believe how lucky I am to be listening to all these genius sounds, words, beats and all. 'Goodbye' mesmerized for the whole evening, 'Song Of Los' for the next day, the whole album for days, weeks and months. Fantastic stuff! Be warned, if you loved Walls, with buying this album you may become the happiest people alive;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another treasure unearthed. September 2, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Had never heard of this guy before but decided to give it a try, and I love this CD. It sounds quite electronic but I'm sure this is mostly accoustic instruments, a mix of male and female vocals on different tracks and overall thoroughly enjoyable. Glad I made the decision to buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars I liked Walls but this is even better. September 1, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I've worn out the bytes on my Walls MP3s. Just recently picked this up, and have been enjoying it since. Similar sound, but improvement all around on this album. Highly recommended if you like his other work.

3.0 out of 5 stars I got almost everything I wanted August 26, 2013
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
There was nothing in the ad for the item that said the downloadable version of the album was available to US customers only, even though the product could be bought by customers outside the US. Even in my confirmation email, it gave a link to my downloadable files and did not specify that I would not be able to download the album because I am outside of the US. I paid full price, and wasn't able to get the downloadable album, meaning I didn't get everything I paid for. When I spoke to customer service, they were able to partially refund me for the product, but couldn't get me the files I wanted to originally buy. The whole trouble of going through customer service could have been avoided if it had said in the ad or even in my receipt email that the downloadable version wouldn't be only available to someone in the US in the first place. Further, if I hadn't spoken to customer service, nothing would have been done, and I would have been allowed to pay full price for less than what was advertised. This doesn't seem right to me. The presentation of what I would get for my money was completely off, and it made me fairly disappointed with this purchase. While I am glad that I was able to get a partial refund, I would have been happier if they could have just given me the files I was willing to pay the money for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best packaging ever. January 26, 2013
Format:Vinyl|Verified Purchase
This was one of my cheaper vinyl purchases - and MAN was I surprised when it arrived! The case is thick, sturdy cardboard, unlock the cardstock most records come in. The record is a nice 180 gram pressing, and the sleeve has beautiful artwork. Also, a beautifully printed 24x24 poster comes with. It's printed on foil paper, and has all the lyrics on the back. AND they include a digital download. Just when I thought there couldn't be anything more, I found a CD inside too!

This is one of those albums that you will listen to straight through on repeat for hours. Best electronic album of 2011.
