I was amazed...for what this movie was made for.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Devious Beings (DVD)
I work at Blockbuster and took home a copy of this film knowing a little about the history of it. First let me say, bottom line this movie is entertaining, with a unique style... About the film, I heard it was Chris Mazzei's first film. He shot it for under $400,000, and he was only 21 years old. I have seen movies made for millions of dollars that are complete [garbage] and aren't as good as this flick. If you watch this movie, you will be more amazed of what this kid did for the money he had. When in a time a $5,000,000 film is considered to be low budget. So I think if this up and coming director had the money of Doug Liman's "GO", you would hear about how finally there is a movie that "GO" should have been! Devious Beings is worth the rent.

What I thought would be a typical low budget flick, turned out to be a high quality and highly entertaining movie. I really recommend buying or at least renting a copy!

DEVIOUS.,

I liked this film, I think it could have been better in areas. But as a whole it was done well. I am a film student and just finished a short, I can't even fathom shooting this feature. I also heard it was made for $50,000 not $400,000. If that is the case, what this filmmaker did for the money is on the same talent as what Robert Rodriguez did with "El Mariachi". If you can look past a boom shadow here and there and focus on the guts of the film, you will enjoy it. It is a very COOL film and if you don't get that, you will not understand it. I have read that people thoght the dialoge was cheesy. I beg to differ, the movie does have a cheesy line every so often, but the charaters make fun of them. Worth the rent, I bought it. Can't wait to see what this filmaker is going to do next.

There is always choices in life.,

This review is from: Devious Beings [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie epitomizes the devistation that the drug life style can do to families. It became evident that all it takes is one family member and the right choice, to break that devistating cycle. From my viewing of this movie, I was deeply moved by Jackson's determination to break that cycle of destrucion and save his mothers life. Having lived this life, I am truly greatful to the director and producer for having the insite to bring these critical issues to the screen. I would encourage others experiencing similar issues to allow this movie to inspire them to change.

Amazing!,

This is an amazing independent film! I'd call it the edgy brother of "Pulp Fiction" with shades of "Memento" smoldering on the side. Gritty and raw with cutting satirical social commentary, make this a must see movie. The dialogue, acting and cinematography are tightly wrapped and drop kicked into your consciousness. A definite find and great addition to any DVD library.

Some friends from college and I saw this movie in Vegas when it was in theaters. One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. It just did not get the promotion it needed. The writting is excellent. This movie is awesome and funny at the same time. Very cool, very griddy look at rave kids making a living. I loved GO and Reservoir Dogs, Devious Beings is up there with them. Buy this Movie, you won't regret it.

I went to this movie in the theaters. I really liked it. I got to meet the cast a the theater in Vegas for a signing, that was way cool. The movie deals with the gritty look at rave kids tying to make a living. What "Go" was trying to be. It did not get the recognition it deserved it the theaters. A must see if you like movies. Worth the buy!

I suppose meeting the cast and crew of this film in LV, NV was informative and entertaining but that doesn't excuse the obvious failings of this film. First, as another reviewer mentioned, the boom should get co-starring credit and the focus and lighting was all over the place. I half-expected a furious Steve Buscemi to appear, yelling "Cut!" (see DiCillo's "Living In Oblivion"). Given the script's staleness and unoriginality (a fat guy named Tiny? a silly motel clerk?), the acting was relatively fine - notably Doyle. There were a few amusing moments, I'll give it that. (note to writer/director: do a comedy next time - leave the indie suspense and crime flix to others). Otherwise, an unremarkable film, which is unfortunate as I really wanted to enjoy it since writer/director/producers (all amiable guys) were gracious enough to let me hang out for a day while they filmed in my old home county of SLO - the reason for the two-star rating. Rent it, if you must, but it really has very little to do with raves, if that's what you're looking for.
