DEVOLUTION IN THE UNITED KINGDOM by Vernon Bogdanor
This is a masterful, excellent scholarship that considers the motivations for devolution (history, political bases, constitutional implications, possible consequences) and much more thorough than any other study I've seen. I work to try to find a solution - politically and constitutionally suitable- for a country known as the Union of Burma/Myanmar. The objectives at the outset, a federal democracy, and the current reality, a unitary state militarily governed, requires devolution back to the original plan to be acceptanle to the citizenry. Prof. Bogdanor's work is the only that has offered any help in our situation. I most highly recommend this work. I would like to see what he has done on the British situation since 1998. |
