I have had the pleasure of experiencing Avishai Cohen live in concert with Chic Corea twice. After listening to his first release "Adama" non-stop for six months, I am happy to report that "Devotion" is another great album. He has already developed his own style and is experementing with new things, including using a Wa-Wa pedal, which I think blends very well into the mix of instruments. Even if you aren't into the whole "middle eastern" genre, this entire album is very much a Jazz album. I recommend picking up a copy!

Since hearing Cohen's first disc "Adama", I have been a fan. His arrangements are wonderful, full of grace as well as life. His bass solos are some of the most interesting jazz instrumental solos I have had the pleasure of listening to. I recently saw Cohen in concert where he performed from his new cd "Colors". From what I heard, I recommend it as well.

This is one of the greatest albums that I have ever had the pleasure to own. There are not many albums that can make you a better musician just by listening to them but this is one of them. I bought this CD and a week later went out and bought his first album Adama, which is almost equally as good. As soon as I finished listening to Devotion I immediately went to my upright bass and began trying to learn the songs. My hats goes off to Avishai, he is certainly one of the best bass player/writers to grace music since guys like Mingus and Jaco.

Great melodic album, played masterfully, full of ideas, does not bore after lots of listening. I recommend this album to any music lover!
