Evans, creates a believable and relatable situation between a husband and wife who have naturally become comfortable in their marriage . . . and the consequences of allowing the temptation of new passion to burn brighter than the flames of true love. ~ ~Jen Stephens, author of The Heart's Journey Home and The Heart's Lullaby
Marianne Evans has written a touching story that will leave readers breathless. She has such a gift for the written word. ~ Mary Manners, Award winning author of Wisdom Tree, Tender Mercies, Light the Fire
Marianne Evans has crafted an outstanding, beautifully written and compelling tale of love, loss and second chances. Devotion opens a window to see what can happen when you become complacent in your marriage. Devotion is more than a story, it's life-changing. I highly recommend. ~ Sherry Kuhn, Reviewer, Love 2 Read Novels
Devotion is an important read. Those who have suffered the pain of infidelity may find encouragement and healing within its pages. For those who might flippantly think "I would never," this is a cautionary tale and should be considered a wake-up call to nurture their marriages. ~ Linda Attaway, The Wordsmith Journal Magazine

Taste is subjective. I'm only sharing my personal opinion.
What I liked:
The author is a good writer. She has excellent grammar and sentence structure and no annoying overused words. I think she's a very careful writer and deserves to be recognized for her ability to craft a well-written piece. I felt it was worth the price I paid for the book. My displeasure with the book was with the story line, not with the writing. She's an excellent writer.
What I didn't care for:
I prefer a faster pace in a book. I don't have a lot of time to read and this one dragged far too much for my taste.
The 'adultery' was actually only a kiss. (It took a very long time to get to that kiss.) To be fair, I'd be pretty angry if my husband kissed another woman, but I I'd also be glad he stopped things there and didn't go any further. In this story, Kellen IMMEDIATELY regrets the kiss and is quickly shocked back to reality.
The wife finds out about the kiss but keeps it to herself (for some unknown reason) until after she confirms that she's pregnant. The reason is completely unclear. Personally, my husband would have been hearing about it within an hour. I also don't know if she ever realized it was only a kiss. Kellen never clearly expressed that to her, did he? Doesn't it make a tiny bit of difference?
The wife is wimpy and whiny. Even her 'sniping' is not that big of a deal. Again, I'd be furious if my husband kissed another woman and I'd express my anger. This character collapsed into a rag doll and cried for months. I'm serious. MONTHS.
How long do you make a guy pay for a kiss? 7-8 months? Seriously? It dragged on forever.Read more ›
This is a story everyone who is mariied or who is even considering marriage should read. Five stars!!!
I was taken aback by how I was immediately captivated by the story. The writing quality was superb. Marianne Evans has an undeniable gift with words. I could see and feel and hear the action and dialogue on each page.
I LOVED the main characters' unique careers. Kellen's career as a talent agent was a new reading experience for me. It appears the author either knows or has researched the industry thoroughly.
This book centers around an act of infidelity that threatens to tear a marriage apart. A major point I appreciated about "Devotion" was how clean it was in spite of its tough subject matter. The author was able to get her point and the story across -- including Kellen's betrayal of Juliet -- without making me feel as if I were reading questionable material. Many Christian books dealing with the same types of situations aren't so discreet.
I totally recommend this book for married women; in addition to being a great read, it reminded me to appreciate and love my own awesome husband.
What I Thought Could Have Been Better:
I felt a shift in my level of captivation with the book nearing the center and on to the end. The conversations and thought processes began to feel repetitive. Though the content and spiritual truths brought out were good, I'M not good with stories that are mostly conversation and reflection. If the last half of the book had been like the first half, I would have definitely given this book a five, something I rarely do. :)
Very rarely I come across a book as that and when I do I feel an immediate need to express my appreciation for the author's attempt to address the subject matter that many readers find too hard to handle. Infidelity is such a sensitive theme that requires appropriate use of balance in conjunction with the desired resolution for both "the injured party" and "the reader."
This author fulfilled just about that and I am glad not to stir from this gender, otherwise I would not be able to discover such a great author that can write with soul and passion that can leave a place in my heart.
In to the story...
This story relies on Christian values when addressing the problem of infidelity/unfaithfulness/marriage betrayal, but be that as it may, its the main characters predicament that took the center stage and any references to Christianity were treated as supplementary guidelines to the problem at hand that many real life people would approach the same way, even by not being a Christian... it means: everyone would question their own objectiveness in terms of how far their loyalty, forgiveness and devotion would go? These questions are answered splendidly in this storytelling and realistically portraying the temptations that human beings are not immune to no matter how happy and satisfying their life's are.
Here...the main couple's nine years of marriage seems happy and fulfilling at every level. They love each other deeply and are devoted to their jobs they love.Read more ›
