Devotion was awarded the Bookseller's Best Award for Best Inspirational Novel of 2013 ~ Award sponsored by the Greater Detroit Chapter of the Romance Writers of America

Evans, creates a believable and relatable situation between a husband and wife who have naturally become comfortable in their marriage . . . and the consequences of allowing the temptation of new passion to burn brighter than the flames of true love. ~ ~Jen Stephens, author of The Heart's Journey Home and The Heart's Lullaby

Marianne Evans has written a touching story that will leave readers breathless. She has such a gift for the written word. ~ Mary Manners, Award winning author of Wisdom Tree, Tender Mercies, Light the Fire

Marianne Evans has crafted an outstanding, beautifully written and compelling tale of love, loss and second chances. Devotion opens a window to see what can happen when you become complacent in your marriage. Devotion is more than a story, it's life-changing. I highly recommend. ~ Sherry Kuhn, Reviewer, Love 2 Read Novels

Devotion is an important read. Those who have suffered the pain of infidelity may find encouragement and healing within its pages. For those who might flippantly think "I would never," this is a cautionary tale and should be considered a wake-up call to nurture their marriages. ~ Linda Attaway, The Wordsmith Journal Magazine

Devotion is a lovely story about the power of hope and forgiveness. When Kellen Rossiter commits the mose grievous marriage sin--infidelity--his wife Juliet must find a way to forgive him...she is pregnant with his child. What happens during the course of the story is a series of heart-tugging scenes that grab attention and refuse to let go.

This is a story everyone who is mariied or who is even considering marriage should read. Five stars!!!

I'm caught up on books I'm obligated to review, so I was able to pick a book from my shelves and read it for leisure. As I tried to decide between Francine River's "Road to Haven" and Julie Klassen's "The Dancing Master," my eye caught on "Devotion" by Marianne Evans, a book I won in a giveaway this year. I decided to give it a shot.

Wow!

I was taken aback by how I was immediately captivated by the story. The writing quality was superb. Marianne Evans has an undeniable gift with words. I could see and feel and hear the action and dialogue on each page.

I LOVED the main characters' unique careers. Kellen's career as a talent agent was a new reading experience for me. It appears the author either knows or has researched the industry thoroughly.

This book centers around an act of infidelity that threatens to tear a marriage apart. A major point I appreciated about "Devotion" was how clean it was in spite of its tough subject matter. The author was able to get her point and the story across -- including Kellen's betrayal of Juliet -- without making me feel as if I were reading questionable material. Many Christian books dealing with the same types of situations aren't so discreet.

I totally recommend this book for married women; in addition to being a great read, it reminded me to appreciate and love my own awesome husband.

What I Thought Could Have Been Better:

I felt a shift in my level of captivation with the book nearing the center and on to the end. The conversations and thought processes began to feel repetitive. Though the content and spiritual truths brought out were good, I'M not good with stories that are mostly conversation and reflection. If the last half of the book had been like the first half, I would have definitely given this book a five, something I rarely do. :)

Devotion is a fictional novel focused on the marriage of two characters named Kellen and Juliet. As I read the story, for me, it shows both the joys as well as the sorrows marital relationships can bring. Juliet’s character, I think, best reflects many unspoken fears, dreams, hopes and heartbreak that many women experience. The other strong tenet of the book is the depth of the fall into sin that causes the major tension in the story. The point of view of the sin that trips up one of the characters is vastly different from society around the globe.
Perhaps my greatest hope is that many will read the novel and draw the nuggets of wisdom tucked neatly into the story. As I read, I rejoiced in the way the author beautifully shows the heartache that can be experienced when a spouse falls into sin, as well as the way the tension towards healing, redemption and hope is shown in how it takes both people in the marriage to work on the relationship. It is absolutely refreshing to read how the characters reach out and up to God and hear His voice in ways that challenge and ways that bring comfort to the two main characters.
The pastor’s character shows a man of God counseling both parties separately at first. The only caveat I have is that when counseling with Juliet he did so alone, when another woman being present during that time in this day and age is absolutely a must! The support system that all people in marriages need is also reflected in the novel, and the point is made to recognize when a marriage might be heading into turbulent waters.
Marriage is work and that is also a theme in the book. It takes both spouses to draw near to God and then each other for it to grow.

This book is about a journey that any marriage may face and as a powerful reminder that no marriage is immune to temptation

Very rarely I come across a book as that and when I do I feel an immediate need to express my appreciation for the author's attempt to address the subject matter that many readers find too hard to handle. Infidelity is such a sensitive theme that requires appropriate use of balance in conjunction with the desired resolution for both "the injured party" and "the reader."

This author fulfilled just about that and I am glad not to stir from this gender, otherwise I would not be able to discover such a great author that can write with soul and passion that can leave a place in my heart.

In to the story...

This story relies on Christian values when addressing the problem of infidelity/unfaithfulness/marriage betrayal, but be that as it may, its the main characters predicament that took the center stage and any references to Christianity were treated as supplementary guidelines to the problem at hand that many real life people would approach the same way, even by not being a Christian... it means: everyone would question their own objectiveness in terms of how far their loyalty, forgiveness and devotion would go? These questions are answered splendidly in this storytelling and realistically portraying the temptations that human beings are not immune to no matter how happy and satisfying their life's are.

Here...the main couple's nine years of marriage seems happy and fulfilling at every level. They love each other deeply and are devoted to their jobs they love.
