"Devotion" is the fourth studio album by German melodic hard rock band "Shylock" released in 2007. For those not familiar with the band, "Shylock", in a way, takes the hugely produced sound found in bands like "Frontline" while incorporating melodies in the style of "Bonfire" therefore retaining the very essence of German melodic hard rock. The line up features Matthias Schenk on lead vocals, Johannes Lohr on guitars, Steven Wussow on bass, key player Oliver Thiergartner and drummer Achim Thiergartner.

On a personal level, when I come across a "Shylock" release, I purchase without hesitation as the band have effectively proven through the past four releases that they would not put on the market anything less than an amazing album. So provided a reasonable price, "Shylock" is amongst the safest choices for any fan of melodic hard rock. They bring together thick yet harmonious riffs, mind blowing lead guitar parts, totally intriguing solos, huge adrenaline-fuelled choruses effectively managing to sound catchy and passionate at the same time. And much like their previous releases, "Devotion" is amazing track after amazing track; you might even find that most of the songs have strong radio quality due to their catchy tempo and vocal lines. Favorite tracks include "The rain", "Eternal life", "Music", "Hunting high an low" and "Again" but there really is not a single weak moment in "Shylock's" catalogue.

These guys literally combine the greatest elements of German melodic hard rock while leaving out anything unnecessary, plus the 14 tracks on offer here make for a satisfactory dose of melodic hard rock-keeping in mind that there are no fillers on "Devotion".
