Book Description

March 29, 2005
Raising children shapes the parent every bit as much as parents shape their children. Raising children is a sacred calling---and not for the faint of heart. In Devotions for Sacred Parenting, the author of Sacred Parenting continues the conversation and contemplates the soul-transforming journey of being a parent. With all new material, fifty-two devotions explore the spiritual dynamics of parenting. These life-related devotions are creative, fresh, and encouraging, inspiring mothers and fathers to look at parenting from a different perspective---as a holy and high calling from God, and as an opportunity to grow spiritually as you strive to raise godly children. Devotions for Sacred Parenting helps you understand how God is parenting you as you parent your children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest parenting book I've ever read! November 23, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
All eight of our children were adopted at various ages. I've read lots of parenting books and had hours upon hours of training by professionals. None were very helpful as the circumstances and dynamics of our family are so different. We have two special needs children and all of our kids had been abused. This devotional is not a how to book. Gary Thomas uses Biblical principles to teach parents the design of God. He shows us that parenting is a tool the Lord uses to shape parents into humble servants. I had already found that to be true. Each child the Lord placed in our home exposed certain selfishnesses in both of us. I would work on that sin, then another child would come and off I go into another training session. This book will change the way you view your kids and yourself, if you prayerfully consider the principles and put them into practice. I bought two for my married daughters. Check out Gary's DVD SACRED PARENTING. I highly recommend this material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Amazing. . . November 10, 2009
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The author truly lets you see parenting as it really is, with all the nuts and bolts on display. He doesn't mince words or pretty things up. Rather, as in his marriage books, he gives the message that it's hard but rewarding (kind of an Outward BOund of spirituality, if you will). His marriage book may have literally saved my marriage and since then I've recommended and purchased it for lots of friends -- his parenting books are very similar. They challenge you and force you to grow, as you are forced to acknowledge that we don't ultimately order our kids from catalogs so that they'll be pleasing to us, and that in some strange way, they are pleasing to GOd BECAUSE they challenge us, not DESPITE the fact that they do. I know that I have grown greatly from being a parent, and will continue to do so. It's nice to have this book as a companion on the journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful March 3, 2011
Format:Hardcover
We are currently using the Sacred Parenting Bible Study in Monday Night Moms and are greatly enjoying it. I was excited to review this devotional book. I really appreciate the fact that this is a stand alone devotional. You do not have to read the book Sacred Parenting to appreciate and use it. Gary Thomas gathered new material that further expands on the lessons taught in the bible study and book. Much like Devotions for a Sacred Marriage it has 52 devotions - one for each week of the year. The purpose is for couples to study this devotional one night out of the week and other devotionals the rest of the week. In this way the material studied can be prayed about and put into practice for one week before moving on to the next subject. For couples just starting to have a devotional time together this is a great way to start. Often one night a week is easier than five nights. I would encourage couples to pick up other devotionals or bible studies for the remaining nights.
Thank you Zondervan for this review copy.
