5.0 out of 5 stars good stuff
My daughter, who just turned 11, wanted this book after seeing the movie. She just loves it. There are pictures and places to write some of her thoughts, and the devotions are really good, in depth, real-life, thought-provoking devotions that will speak to the hearts of young people as well as adults. They have sparked some good conversations between my daughter and me.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was OK
This book did a really great job of showing the real Bethany Hamilton and what life was like for her. Some parts of it i found kind of boring, but all it all it was worth what i paid for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Christian Inspiration, March 31, 2008

This review is from: Devotions for the Soul Surfer: Daily Thoughts to Charge Your Life (Paperback)
This book was mainly devoted to bringing up all of the tough points of being a teenager, and how to make it through these times with Christ. I found it very inspirational and motivating because on each page, there was a Bible verse that coincided with the topic at hand. It gets repetitive at times, but it's definitely worth a read. It will inspire you to become a better Christian and a better person.

I bought this for my 15 year old daughter after she read the book Soul Surfer. She enjoys the devotions. For her, it makes spending time with God more fun. She enjoys all of the bible verses that are in there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome devotional for teens, May 18, 2011

I really like this devotional. I saw the movie Soul Surfer and was inspired by Bethany's story. How she remained faithful to God after her shark attack and even now is more than enough reason to want to read this.

This book gives Biblical, practical advice for young teenage girls and young women. I am a twenty-something, and even I am encouraged by it. When I am done with it, I am thinking about donating it to my church library so someone else can benefit from it.

Kudos to Bethany for this devotional!

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves this book!, January 2, 2012
This review is from: Soul Surfer Devotions (Paperback)
My 12 year old daughter received this book as a Christmas present. She loves it! It has awseome pictures, pages for journal entries, and lots of information about teenage topics from a Christian based standpoint. Bethany has proven to be an awesome, Christian role model.

She wanted the DVD and I saw this as a companion. Our daughter is 24 and she loved it immediately and was already reading it. We watched the DVD together on Christmas day and I was very impressed by Bethanys story.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Gift of Mercy, December 5, 2011

I am the oddest of persons to have a Bethany Hamilton fancrush. Most of her fans seem to be teenage girls and I am neither female nor a teenager. About the only thing I have in common with her is being Evangelical and disabled(epilepsy and social disability to be precise). Yet for some reason I have come to like her though seeing on the internet all those hordes of teenage females hanging on my every word makes me think,"Lord Please, have mercy on her! Send her back to the beach! No girl deserves to be burdened with this!" In fact one thing contemplating her did was reduce my resentment at not doing glorious deeds. I am now thankful to be obscure.

I am so much different from Bethany that I have to be tempted to judge it based on my predispositions rather then hers. I am a "teacher" and I would have written a series of deep theological essays. Bethany is a "mercy". For those not familiar with Evangelical theological jargon, those are two different talents to be used in serving God. Teaching is about imparting knowledge and mercy is about kindness. Bethany's essays are in many ways tautological. They are obviously disproportionately directed toward the teenage girls who form most of her fanbase. However they give encouragement and remind readers of lessons they had never heard before while they are at a tender age. It is quite good for this. Bethany's tender big-sisterly personality comes out and she manages to make Godliness seem "cool" which makes it a good read for a teenage girl at a vulnerable stage.

It is a good enough work. But take it for what it is not what it isn't.

Thank you Amazon for the quick service on my order for the soul surfer devotion book. It arrived in great shape earlier than expected and it just so happened my granddaughter was having a procedure and so I gave her the book that morning while she was waiting and she absolutely loved it and timing was perfect.
