I have the 4pcs. set of Dewalt 18volt tools. They worked fine until the batteries gave out on me. This was after only 13 months. ...it is totally worthless unless you spend [more money]. on new batteries. This is a mighty expensive hobby. They need to do something to make a better and more reliable battery. I won't be back for anymore of their products until they take...

I have been using DeWalt tools for a long time and I feel they are one of the best in the industry. One of the problems I have with all of the brands is the cost of the batteries. I own a few of these batteries and they are great BUT, I later found out I could get the MUCH cheaper Black and Decker (the makers of DeWalt) 18v Fire Storm Battery and it will work just the same. You just need to file down a little plastic ridge on the top of the battery (you will see it when you look at it it takes about two seconds to remove) and it works perfectly... as far as charging... exactly the same one hour DeWalt charger...If you want the DeWalt name on the side pay it but many stores charge [less] for the same battery you are paying [more] for. Ask any contractor they know... also the Black and Decker Battery has a 2 year warrantee and the same 40% more battery life claim. Sorry if this costs DeWalt battery sales but consumers must stick together when companies do this... possibly some of you who read this will also write articles informing others and help me some day.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good battery!, July 1, 2000

The Dewalt 18 volt XR+ batteries are one of the best on the market. They interchange with all other 18 volt tools. The amount of use time goes without saying. I am a contractor that only uses Dewalt tools because of their reputation and reasonable prices. Dewalt batteries pay for themselves over and over. I placed them on a four star rating because I feel that the runtime on heavier draining tools such as a reciprocating saw could be better. Overall, a very good battery.

4.0 out of 5 stars necessary evil, September 10, 2002

If you have cordless tools you gotta have batteries! I have been using De Walt for years. The XR+ do seem to last longer I am a professonal tool user and beat these around the job site everyday I have droped them off ladders bldgs. kicked them around loaned them out you name it they come back for more! I just bought a new one my others are starting to lose the charge a bit to fast but I have had them for 2 years using them in a drill and sawzall. So, like I said they are a necessary evil I recommend having at least 2 or 3 if you are using them on the job site a homeowner could probably get by with 1or 2

4.0 out of 5 stars firestorm vs dewalt batteries, October 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Dewalt Tools (DWTDC9096) 18 Volt XRP Battery Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I saw numbers that showed the 18V firestorm battery had a 1.5 amp-hour life, while the Dewalt battery had a 2.4 amp-hour life. Possibly a big part of the difference in price between the two battery packs?

My batteries lasted about 2 years with medium-to-heavy DIY use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!, July 24, 2003
This review is from: Dewalt Tools (DWTDC9096) 18 Volt XRP Battery Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
These batteries are fabulous and perform admirably under all kinds of conditions. They also give at least 30% + over the traditional XR. My only complaint is that these things are so expensive!! I wish I knew if they cost that much to manufacture or if we are getting ripped off. I love Dewalt products - that is the only tool I buy.

I have 8 diffrent dewalt tool that I use, no abuse every day. Serveral of my batteries are 4 years old and are just starting to not hold a charge. They get left in the truck in the winter.
I just use them in the flashlight. For just a little more than the price of two batteries, you can get a new drill charger and batteries. batteries weak hows the tool?
