Dewey makes the Dewey Decimal System fun!,
By
This review is from: Dewey: There's a Cat in the Library! (Hardcover)
As an adult, you may have read the grown up version of Dewey Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. This child's version is even more charming! Dewey kind of brings out the child in one and here is a book to share with your children of the intrepid cat who becomes the Spencer Library cat.
The author, Vicki Myron, finds Dewey in the library drop box and after nursing him back to health decides he will become a library cat. My grandchildren liked the story of Dewey and liked sharing his thoughts as he rambles through the library, hits story time and generally charms the hearts of all he encounters.

This is an adorable book about a kitten who is found in a library's book return and is adopted by the librarian as the "Library Cat" and is named "Dewey Readmore Books". The story is very heartwarming and funny. My 5-year-old twins (as well as myself) laughed out loud several times. The artwork is also very impressive--it looks very lifelike. A great purchase.

Because I enjoyed the first book about Dewey, I wanted to see how much of the story would be included in the children's book. As it turned out, it was just right. This is one of the cutest cats I have ever seen and the illustrations are wonderful. I have six cats that I adore and I would gladly add a cat like Dewey any day. He is truly a cat who made a difference and touched the lives of many - both young and old. He could also be named Dewey - a Cat of Peace. I am taking this book as a gift to our local library where I volunteer and I cannot wait to see the children's faces when they check in the book.
I highly recommend this book and thank you, Amazon, for letting me know that it was coming on the market.

This review is from: Dewey: There's a Cat in the Library! (Hardcover)
This is a beautifully illustrated story of a cat who ends up in a book drop and becomes the library's cat - based on a true story. The pictures are so well done that you will find yourself wanting to reach into them and snuggle the kitten for yourself. The story itself however is kind of choppy and doesn't really flow very well. Dewey gets petted the wrong way, he peers at a baby, he gets chased around story time and held upside down, and he cheers up a sad little girl. If you child loves cats, then this book is probably worth getting based on the illustrations alone, but if you are looking for a great story to read and re-read this is not your book.

If you've heard the true story about Dewey the library cat or even if you haven't, this is an excellent version to share with a child in your life.
Dewey is a kitten who is abandoned in a drop box at a library and becomes an integral part of the Library. At first, he has a hard time settling in with all the noise and strange behaviors of the patrons. Eventually, though (and with a good bit of humor while communicating with a toy mouse) he decides that it is his job to help the patrons of the library, and help he does! From working, to entertaining to reaching out to a poor, sad little girl and making her laugh, Dewey shows he is the heart of that tiny little Iowa library. I loved this book. The story was well-written and humorous. At several points, both my daughter (4-year-old) and I laughed and giggled at Dewey's exploits. I enjoyed it so much, I am purchasing a second copy to give as a gift. The illustrations are bright and well-drawn and Dewey is a lovable character.

My four-year-old son and I very much enjoyed this book. The illustrations are adorable, and my son couldn't stop giggling at Dewey's antics throughout the book. Most of Dewey's story was nice, and my son immediately asked to read it again when we finished reading it the first time.
My only qualm is the way children treat Dewey all the way through the book. Although I don't doubt that a library cat would receive some abuse from children--and the book does explain the right direction in which to pet a cat--the book sort of gives the impression that Dewey ENJOYS being treated roughly. Even if such a thing is true in this case--and I haven't read the longer book about Dewey yet, so I don't know--the way the children treat the cat in the story could set a bad precedent for real kids. Even setting concern for the cat aside, a kid who pulls these stunts (ear-grabbing, backward petting, chasing, carrying upside down) with an average cat could very well get bitten or scratched. Still, I highly recommend Dewey: There's a Cat in the Library! for people who have had other experience with cats.

A gentle tribute to both the cat, and libraries everywhere,

"Dewey: There's a Cat in the Library" is a wonderful story about a kitten who was found in the library in Spencer, Iowa, who became Dewey Readmore Books. Dewey explores the library and plays, and tolerates the library's smaller visitors who don't always pet him in the right direction. But his real mission as a library cat is to help people, he decides. Dewey is determined to be helpful, but one little sad girl seems quite hard to reach. Fortunately Dewey is up to the challenge and he ends up being silly to cheer her up, which works quite well indeed. "Dewey: There's a Cat in the Library" is a gentle tribute to both the cat, and libraries everywhere. The large page realistic illustrations warm the tale to its happy conclusion. "Dewey: There's a Cat in the Library" is suitable for children age 4 and up.

This is the such a beautiful book. My 5 year old granddaughter laughed at all the antics of this adorable kitten. She just loved it. I am sure we will read this book many times. I also got the adult book about Dewey and I am so looking forward to reading it. My Granddaughter wants me to read it to her too.

Dewey There's a Cat in the Library is a book about a kitten that is left in the book return and is found by the librarian. She quickly decides to clean him up and instantly falls in love with him. She keeps the kitten as a library cat and names him Dewey Readmore Books. The children instantly love him, but he gets frustrated thinking he should have a positive roll in the library since he was special enough kitten to be a library cat. Find out how he finds his special job by reading for yourself.
This is a great book for young children. The illustrations make you smile. They are a wonderful addition to the storyline. I think this is definitely a book that can be read over and over again with your young reader. By Kerri J. Busteed Author of Will's First Hunt Will's First Hunt
