Dewy's Adventure bombed (sales wise) in Japan, and Konami is quietly releasing it here a week early with absolutely no advertising. Reviews have just begun to trinkle in, a week after the release, and word of mouth is next to none. I went to five different stores for this game, and finally came across it after a two day search. I also got a Dewy plush toy with it, although I don't care much for it.

The main thing that surprises me about this is how surprisingly good this platformer is. It can be summed up in just a few words: Super Mario 64 + Super Monkey Ball. That's it. Of course, the controls are not as tight as either title, and as such it's a bit frustrating at certain points, but this is easily one of the year's finest platformers. At least until Super Mario Galaxy comes out.

In this game, you control Dewy, a droplet of water. He's beyond adorable, and to be quite honest, a bit beyond someone like myself -- I don't really care for the baby-ish persona of this character, although I'm sure there are many others who will (not to mention little kids). The story, while simple and absolutely standard, is augmented with rather nice illustrations and storybook sequences, reminiscent of Elebits. It would be pretty easy to already be put off by the whimsical nature this title presents, but wait until you start playing this thing.

You hold the Wiimote like a NES controller, and tilt it to move the stage in which Dewy inhabits. Press the D-Pad up to raise the temperature, down to lower the temperature. Doing so results in Dewy's multiple forms: the standard, water-like one, where he can jump the best and control easily; warmer for the mist form, in which he becomes a cloud and is able to strike down any nearby enemies with lightning; and colder for the ice form, in which he can slide across pools of now frozen water and do some awesome attacks.

The main complaint about this game thus far is how "average" it is. I honestly can not agree -- while it is basically a simple platformer game, the ability to modify your surroundings via temperature is a stroke of utter genius. In the ice world, you can lower and raise water levels, for example, and this creates obstacles within obstacles. The controls do take some use getting to, and they are never really quite as tight as they should be, but they work overall.

Besides that, the presentation is fantastic. The graphics in this game are some of Wii's best yet... absolutely beautiful at certain points. The music is just fine, and the level design is both clever and fun.

On top of all that, the game will last you a long time. There are many levels, and each level takes about 10-30 minutes to beat.. and that is not including doing the levels perfectly, as you are graded based on your performance. As you can imagine, the re-play factor is quite high.

I haven't even gotten to the solid multiplayer yet, not to mention the option to design your own multiplayer levels and send them to anyone with Nintendo's WiiConnect24 service.

I highly recommend this game for a couple reasons -- firstly, it's a great third-party effort (which Nintendo can always use) that oozes innovation and originality but also happens to be excellent. Second, although I'm not certain, you can count on this game being out of print within a year or less. There seems to be not many copies to begin with, and the fact that absolutely no one is talking about it a week after its release is a bit sad. I have a feeling this will be one of those forgotten classics, that sometime in the near future people will be profiled by some magazine as one of the best games you've never played.

So if you're a platformer junkie and love a good challenge, pick Dewy's Adventure up right away.

Dewy's Adventure for the Wii is really a breath of fresh air. Many early wii games have been unoriginal, rushed, sloppy titles meant to cash-in on Nintendo's new found popularity. That's not the case with Dewy's Adventure, which Konami has made from the ground-up specifically for the wii, and they've made a quality title here. Dewy is a droplet of water, you control him by tilting your wiimote around. You actually tilt the level to move him, very similar to monkeyball. But this isn't monkeyball, the game is an adventure, more along the lines of mario. You'll be freeing friendly creatures, fighting the baddies, solving puzzles, and having a blast. Dewy has a bunch of cool powers to use, such as causing an earthquake, creating gusts of wind, and changing the temperature of the world. Changing the temperature turns dewy from water into ice or into a cloud, both giving him unique powers. Ice dewy can smash bad guys more easily, cloud dewy can float up and shoot lightning. The levels also change with the temperature, so flowers will sprout when you make the temperature high, or everything will frost when you make it go down. This adds a beautiful variation of detail to each world, and makes the game cooler. It also helps you solve puzzles, for instance, if you make the temperature go up you'll melt a block of ice to access a new area. The puzzles and game get harder as you progress, but it's never too frustrating.

The controls are responsive and well implemented, you'll be using the wiimote in a variety of ways. Most importantly, you tilt the controller to tilt the level and move dewy around. At first i was a bit sloppy, so dewy would fall off a ledge here and there. But after playing and getting used to the control, i'm now moving dewy around very precisely (there's also a controller sensitivity adjusment in the menu). You'll be wagging the wiimote left & right to cause earthquakes, or up & down to create gusts of wind. Against bosses you also have to shake the wiimote around at certain parts, and it's always fun. The game has a beautiful art style, and the graphics are a step-up from most wii games. The sound effects and music are also very good, and definitely fit well with the game. There's a lot of replay vaule too- between the mutliplayer, the level creator, and finishing each stage with 100% you'll be playing for a while. The main story is fairly long & starts off easy but gets more challenging. There's also a lot of variation between the worlds, characters, and bosses. Dewy's adventure was designed specifically for the wii, it's very unique, has beautiful graphics, excellent sound, lots of fun to play for people of all ages, and great replay value. Overall it's a stylish, high-quality title for the Wii, and it's well worth picking up.

It's cute, it's keeps you playing(wanting to see the next levels), but personally, I don't like not having definite control over the character. Basically, you move Dewey by tilting the Wiimote and he glides all over. You're always on the verge of falling off of the edge of something. I just find games like that, more stressful than fun, but that's just me.

Dewy's Adventure is indeed a very unique game. It is from the same makers of another quirky title, Elebits. It employs you as the titled Dewy and you are a droplet of water chosen to save the denizens of the elder tree. The game uses the phases of water as a main proponent of game play. Dewy can be turned into ice, water vapor (a cloud), or back to his normal state. These phases facilitate some of the puzzle solving within the world. Lakes must be frozen before they can be crossed. Electric bolts can be used to turn on switches. Combat also uses Dewy's elemental powers. Turning Dewy into ice allows him to use an ice spin attack. Turning him into a cloud allows him to send out electric bolts. And Dewy can employ his basic jump attack to take out enemies. The game is presented in colorful detail. As mush as Elebits used the Wii remote in a unique way, so does Dewy's Adventure. The game utilizes the Wii remote's motion sensing capabilities to maneuver Dewy around the game world. The player will actually manipulate the world in which Dewy slides on, not Dewy himself. Tilting the remote around moves the world plain. The Wii remote can also be shaken to conjure up an earthquake or a windstorm. But the control is where the problem lies. The Wii remote is often not responsive enough (even in the highest sensitivity) to get accurate movements around the world. It's often frustrating to make Dewy go where you want him and often times, you'll find yourself sending Dewy off a cliff. Jumping can be just as tricky as you have no reference as to where you're jumping to. However, the game is full of charm, albeit very high on the sugar level. The different environments are colorfully detailed and has an art style that sets it apart from other games. The combat is simple, but fun. It has to be credited for the fact that it is a unique game built from the ground up for the Wii. If you're still unsure about the game, it's definitely still worth a rental.

About the games background:
O.K first of all this is a real Japanese style game. The characters are very colourful and Dewys shape is a mixture of a waterdrop and a baby (fluffy texture).
The Japanese think thats cute, I guess outside of Japan many might think its to much cuteness to stand.

Anyway, the game itself is very bright, colourful, positive and cute. Some average background music is complimenting it. Because of the story I consider this more an educational game. If you are after some action you wont find it here. This is for children or children with their parents that want to enjoy an occasional Sunday afternoon good quality family time type adventure game.

The character Dewy has its own sounds whenever he is doing some action or is being hit. Its similar to the sound of Disney characters like Donald Duck etc. but in a Japanese style, hop you get the idea.


About the story:
You are Dewy (a waterdrop) and have to save the world (and your friends which are locked up in caves of dirt). You actually have to fight the dirt.
As a waterdrop you can change your temperature and with it your aggregate constitution (solid like ice, fluid like water, steamy like a cloud or even thunder).

You can use those constitutions to your advantage f.e. become an ice cube when you need to cross a lake or bounce against your enemies, become a thunder when you need to fight your enemies, etc.

You can create wind and earthquakes by shaking your remote control and moving up physically several layers by being swallowed by a water balloon which spills you out 3 seconds later. You control how high it spills you by shaking the remote.



Summary:

Its a fun game to play for childen with their parents for the occasional sunday afternoon good quality family time. Dont expect any violence or hero action from this game but rather an educational purpose especially with the nice animated introduction story. The characters are more than cute and if you just watch your kids playing it I guarranty you that you will be giggling away and wont be able to stop. The characters uh-oh sounds are just to fantastic.

This is designed as a straight forward kids' game but the controls are too difficult to master, Dewy falls off ledges and cliffs too often. The game becomes frustrating but the idea of a little raindrop changing forms to battle bad guys is pretty cool. This could have been a lot better if the motion controls usage was better.

I got this game becuase I thought it looked cute. well it is cute but it gets anoying like ten munites later. this game is very deffrent from the others, you have to balance the wii controller to make it move and try not to fall off the platform. the firts boss was to hard for me and I am still stuck on it, I know what to do but it is just to hard. all you do on this game is gather little anoying creatures and kill the monsters that are in the way. eventhough I only paid eight dollars I wish I haven't. it gets very tierdsome and like I said ANOYING. I am a girl so if a girl did not like it than most likely a boy would not like to. I know since my own brother where laughing at the game and at me for buying it.

I am now selling the game. And I did not even had this for a year!

This game may have the most cute graphics to ever grace the Wii, but DO NOT let it fool you. Behind all the sugar lies a very hard and challenging game.
The controls work nice, but if you get nervous, it'll get the best of you.
The graphics are cute ( like mentioned above) and work nicely.
The story isn't very deep, but it's still fun to play.
Sadly, the difficulty can make it no fun to play, and the controls like I said can get a little shaky if you're not careful.
A nice game for Teenagers.

this game is one of my favorite wii games i own next to Rayman and Death Jr. i love the overall concept of this game and the themes are very colorful. this game is really fun! you use the wii remote sideways and control the movement by tilting it. i usually have a huge problem with controlling it by movement of the hand and perfer using a classic controller to play my video games. but i find that in this game i dont have a problem with it because the control of tilting is more accurate then other games and the feel of the interactivity makes it more fun and maybe alittle more challenging but not in an annoying way. as far as the opsticals in the game, they have a creative concept. there is alot of different stuff going on all the time like many different ways to attack opponents and you are always tuned in to the game since its important to keep your balance and not fall of the cliffs. you learn tricks as you play and once you get the hang of how accurate to control the balance of the remote it is really fun! cute and creative and colorful and fun! i recommend this game to any video gamer!

I think I know why this game was on clearance; it is very very hard to play. If only one could navigate using the directional pad instead of waving the wiimote around, it might have been easier. So easy to die, so hard to save.
