Finally an oven mitt that works and isn't cumbersome!,

So oven mitts have been one of the lifelong banes of my existence. I hate sticking my arms inside the thumb/hand mitt ones, because if you spend several hours baking cookies, your hands are always sticky, and the inside of the mitt gets nasty. Also, if a cloth mitt gets the tiniest bit damp, the heat will bleed through immediately and burn you. The square fabric pads have been my go-to, but they make me feel awkward trying to grab them and the pan at the same time, without dropping or spilling anything. Then I got silicone square pads. Those were the worst ever. They blocked the heat, but they are so stiff, you can hardly grab anything. I bought one of these, particularly to use when cooking with a cast iron pan, but they have become indispensible and my whole family loves them.
Why I love these: - they don't let any heat through - you just slip your fingers in and out with ease, quick to put on and off - just rinse them in the sink if they get dirty (major plus for me) - they are flexible and stay on your fingers well - they are big enough to protect your hands, but small enough to make grabbing pans super easy - easy to grab for anything from microwaved dishes, to cast iron skillets, to oven pans Wish I could give them ten stars! UPDATE July 2011: If you hold a hot pan for longer than a few seconds, the heat will cause the silicone to gradually increase in heat. It can get to the point where the silicone is so hot it feels like it is burning your hand. If you take off the mini mitt at that point, it will take several minutes for the silicone to cool back down. I have found this to be a problem when cooking with large cast iron skillets, where I would hold onto the hot handle (using the mitt) for an extended time (five minutes or more). After several minutes, the mitt was so hot it was unusable.

These are awesome. Super grippy, easy to clean, small, protect the whole hand, easy to slip on, etc.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because when you pick up heavy things with smallish button handles (like glass potlids), you feel like you're going to drop it, and you counteract that by squeezing your fingers together in mortal fear. It seems grippy enough that with normal pressure, the lid won't fall, but something about the shape of these doesn't instill confidence in that type of situation. So, to be fair, the lack of a 5th star is due to a feeling they inspire, not their actual performance.

I love these little mitts! They take up such little space in my drawer and have an amazing grip! I have never been burnt using them, they definitely do not conduct the heat like typical oven gloves. Easy to slide your hands in and out of them. I guess after reading the previous comments, I must be a highly adaptable person because I had no issues getting used to using them. In fact I'm buying a pair for my sister for her birthday because she loves them so much too!!!

I ordered this mitt based on the picture that was shown earlier. That model had a thumb grip, more like a mitten. Unfortunately they shipped something similar to the product shown here. The product shown here is bulkier, and gets in the way somewhat when handling pots. Wish Amazon had used the correct picture.

Silicone Oven Mitt,

The most important fact is that these Dexas silicone oven mitts are sold individually. If you want a pair, you must buy two (2) !
This makes it a bit expensive, so keep your eyes open for a sale price. Other than that, there is not all that much to complain about. It takes a bit to get used to these mitts. They are more dense and less flexible than fabric mitts. Once you are accustomed to using them; it will take some practice, they are wonderful. Most oven recipe settings average from 325 to 450 degrees F. These mitts are rated to handle 500 degrees F, so they are quite useful. (Paper ignites at 454 degrees F, by the way.) I have found I can hold onto pots, pans and glass ovenware with no difficulty. The heat doesn't penetrate much, either. These mitts do the job nicely.

I love these little mitts. I've had them for several years now and they work great for small jobs. Not the best idea for pulling a turkey out of the oven, but I use these much more than my other larger mitts.

I wanted a silicone mitt, and like the concept but had a little difficulty getting the hang of using it, without dropping something as I didn't really have a hold of it. Now it is easier for me to use, and I'm glad I purchased - you sure don't have to worry about the heat coming through like you do with a cloth hot pad.

I was looking for a silicone mini mitt to use with my convection oven. When roasting directly on the grate, naturally it gets messy. I wanted a mitt I could use to pull out the grate and then just rinse off. These work. Maybe because I'm not used to the design I find it a little unwieldy, my hands are just loose in them. But overall, I am glad I purchased them.

Do not get this product or anything similar to it! I burnt my wrists using this product. This is the most useless kitchen product! Get a REAL oven mitt that actually covers your wrists.
