This item is great for anyone who has usage of one hand only. My father has used this item for 50 years and the quality of this item can't be beat. It is the bomb.

The knife fork combo was designed in the latter middle part of the 19th century for the large numbers of veterans who had suffered upper limb amputations. I have also seen it referred to as a "one-armed-man's knife". They got the design right back then, and Dexter Russell have been wise enough to not change it. This is a nicely executed, classic working tool. The strongly curved cutting edge allows even tough meat to be cut easily with a rocking motion that doesn't push the meat off your plate. The tines are at a convenient angle and the tool can be simple manipulated in the hand. A piece of simple functional design at a very reasonable price.
