I only recently got into "Dexter's Laboratory" (when "Ego Trip" was released on video) because my cable service doesn't offer "Cartoon Network," so I'm glad other episodes are finally available. This is a really great show -- it's smart, funny, and the colors and designs are some of the best of their type since the early days of "Ren & Stimpy." Like the best entertainment for kids, it's aimed at young people (I would've loved this if it'd been around when I was ten years old) but it also works on a level that adults can appreciate. And, since I hadn't seen any of the early episodes, it was good to finally view the first episode, the "origin" of Mandark, and "Picture Day," which is one of the funniest episodes I've ever seen. This tape also has a sampling of Genndy Tartakovsky's new series, "Samurai Jack" (which appears twice on the tape for reasons I don't completely understand -- but it's cool enough to watch two times). I wish, however, that Warner Home Video would release Dexter on DVD as well as VHS. He may not be as popular as the Powerpuff Girls but Dexter's all about technology! "Goodbye, Billy!"

Dexter's Lab is one of the best comedic 'toons that Cartoon Network has ever created. Its fun for the whole family (adults will love it too). Its definitely a great buy, but why isn't it on DVD?? This would be a must-have DVD for any animation fan, especially for those of us who grew up with classic Warner Bros. comedy. I say it should be released on DVD so as to preserve it on a medium worthy of such a great show. Well, no matter... buy this, pop it in your VHS, and have fun!

Much like some of the best music available is an acquired taste, so is the suburban scientist-kid with the inexplicable eastern European accent. This one was passed over many times through channel flipping, and woefully so. Once the show was allowed to sit, it sat...and it's exemplary.
The show's main strengths, much like Rocky and Bullwinkle, were writing and voice characterization. Whatever awards it may have had bestowed upon it were well deserved. The characters, even the minor one-offs, were voiced expertly, and a goodly number of the episodes were downright delightfully weird. The episode in which Dexter turns into a "wereclown" and Dee Dee has to mime to save him from his involuntary exploits is a prime example. And the execution of this premise couldn't be more classic: I'll never forget the visual of the clown hair bursting out of his head while the last remnant of the real Dexter pleads with Dee Dee to help him. Adults wanting some clean and creative entertainment for their children couldn't go wrong with this series, except that Suzie and Billy may have a hard time wresting it from Mom and Dad. Bring this whole show to USA DVD! NOW!! "Goodnight, ghost of dead fishy!" Update: 12/7/2010: This DVD has now been available for several months. Just shows to go ya what happens when a Goofus is in the house!
