One of my favourites,

This review is from: Dezra's Quest (Dragonlance Bridges of Time, Vol. 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is one of my favourite DL-books! The storyline was great, great characters, I even liked Dezra though I disagreed with her alot...:-) She had a personality, and so had everyone else! To the people who couldn't tolerate her: why do you always focus on the negative sides? Yes she was bitchy, SOMETIMES, but think about the time when she stood alone beside the funeral-pyre. (I'll not tell which character lay on it, because not all of you have read it..) I think Dezra was the kind of person who disliked showing real emotions, she was very careful about showing her inner self, and always wanted to look tough on the outside. There so much good about this book. The tragic fate of the satyr (I'll not tell his name either..), and the races; centaurs and dryads. Dryads has to be my favourite race. And there were lots of clever ideas and situations in this great book! My favourite characters in this book were, without doubt, Borlos the Bard and Pallidice the dryad. Need I say more? I also liked Trephas, Olinia, Eucleia (ashamed to say, I don't remember her exact name, but I mean the grey centaur chieftess..:->) and everyone one else in this book. I surely recommend it!

what happened to chris pirsons writing,

Chris piersons first dragon lance novel was excellent, this on the other hand was forced, the charactors are dull and the plot desperate, there are nice touches but they are not enough. I would like to see Mr Pierson do some more, spirit of the wind was excellent.

Neat story, but could we find a replacement for Dezra?,

This review is from: Dezra's Quest (Dragonlance Bridges of Time, Vol. 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read almost all of the Dragonlance novels, skipping the occasional book for lack of interest. This story was interesting, with a good premise based on the Chaos War and its remnants. The story also allowed the reader to learn more about the centaurs, which provided new and entertaining story lines. Of course, poor old Caramon is dragged through another adventure and does his best to uphold his part, but does every writer have to come up with an irritatingly stupid foil to Caramon? The character of Dezra (his daughter)wasn't interesting, continuously spouted inane retorts and dialogue, and generally was a hateful central character. There was nothing to like about her, nor was there any reason to hope she survived her "quest". I pray that TSR does not waste any more books on the adventures of the ungrateful, idiot Dezra. Thank goodness this story had a number of central characters. Except for Dezra, this "Quest" wasn't bad.

Dezra's Quest is one of my favorite dragonlance books.,

This review is from: Dezra's Quest (Dragonlance Bridges of Time, Vol. 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
Dezra's quest is one of my favorite dragonlance books, mainly because I like to read of the adventures of Caramon Majere, but the other characters like Dezra and Borlos and Pallidice are what give you the feeling of really knowing the characters. I also really enjoyed the creatures in this book, which range from centaurs to dryads to sprites to the evil skorenoi and Grimbough, the evil tree. There was even a Golem, which was a welcomed addition in my opinion. My feeling was that the way the characters and races were portrayed was what gave them meaning to me. In conclusion, the reason I liked the book was because of how well Chris Pierson brought the characters to life in my mind, how he portrayed the little seen centaurs, and the wide variety of creatures.

Caramon is still alive, thanks Dezra!,

At the beginnining it seems an "already heard" story: an old I-don't-want-to-live-without-Raist Caramon, but then things change. Chris Pierson shows us centaurs' life style, their proximity with the woods and their Gods (long live Chislev!) and their philosophical way of living honor. Dezra is not the most important character but she is the "shock" that Caramon needed to feel alive again and to understand that it is worth living life even without Raistlin. A good book which smells of trees and magic.

I enjoyed this book alot. I also enjoyed the fact that the centaurs finally had a book written about them and I thought that the characters were well portrayed. The battles were great and I enjoyed Trephas who was a strong warrior who was loyal to Dezra. I would highly advise this book to all Dragonlance readers.

I like Pierson but not this book,
This review is from: Dezra's Quest (Dragonlance Bridges of Time, Vol. 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
I was looking forward to reading this book from Pierson, but I was very dissapointed. (Although I might have high expectations after reading the Kingpriest Trilogy) One reason I didn't enjoy this book is due to the way Dezra treated Caramon. It kind of ruined the story for me.
Just don't base your opinion of Chris Pierson based solely on this book.

I just finished this book. It was fantastic. I think this new Dragonlance Author is amazing. I've also read his book, Spirit of the Wind, which I liked a lot. So what made this book so good?
1) I really cared about the characters. 2) I didn't know who would survive at the end of this story. Very rarely do I get hooked on a book like this (see R.R. Martin, I'm serious about this comparison). 3) Storyline was very well done. I hated the bad guys and loved the good guys. I also liked the duality of the plot, which can be rare in the dragonlance world. 4) I think the Author has done his homework. Because I've read a majority of the dragonlance books. I can usually see right away if an Author understand the world of Krynn. I really wish Wizards of the Coast would hire someone who has read every book to proofread some of the other DL books before publishing because they can sometimes be BRUTAL. (Tanis the Shadow Years and The Inheritance are two books about Tanis's past..they are COMPLETELY different stories which just tears apart the legitamacy of the stories). But in this book, everything is very consistant with other books in the DL realm. My one point of negativity towards this book is this. I didn't like the language. I have dreams of one day sharing these stories with my children, but this one, unfortunately, I'll have to keep back longer than the others. I mean, do they really need to say "oh, s***" in Krynn? That doesn't really match the style of the other Dragonlance books. Other than that. 5/5...Very well done and well written.

Exciting book from an important new DL author,

Once I picked up this book I was not willing to stop reading it until i had finished it. You can get a plot summary elsewhere on this site, so I won't tell much about that. Peirson focuses on a race--the Centaurs--that haven't really been focused on in DL literature. And he does it well. The conflict seen between the characters of the novel was also really well expressed. Peirson does a good job in this novel of show his world, instead of telling us about it. I recommend this book to any DL reader who wants an excellent diversion from the main Fifth Age plot line.

Dezra's Quest?,

This review is from: Dezra's Quest (Dragonlance Bridges of Time, Vol. 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
At the beginning of this book I really doubted that I would like it, as I read it became okay and then during the end it seemed a very good book. But I can't give Chris Pierson (no relation) five stars for a few reasons. One, the title of this book should have been `a quest in which Dezra is involved' because she was not the main character. Two, Dezra herself seemed to be too much like Kitiara for me to give the author credit for making Dezra into his own character. But other than those points this was a great book. Pierson (no relation) did one of the best jobs writing Caramon that I have seen and the other characters developed nicely as the story continued. And of course there was humor in this book, which never hurts in a Dragonlance book. This may not be a must read book, but it is a should read book, dive into it when you get the time. |
