Uh, I bought this album thinking it was some clever Buddhist thing from /the/ John Mayer that we know and love.
It isn't. Just so you know! :)

Yes, there is a difference between the JM of this album and the crooning, Heavier Strings-creating JM, and yes it should be obvious if you do some further reseach, but it doesn't help that it's sold in a package with Continuum. Just be aware - or have a listen to the tracks first!

The music download 'Dhammapada' is very beautiful. It seems to match very well with the Buddhist teachings of the "Dhammapada."
The pieces or tracks that I particularly like are the Sannysins 1, 2 and 3. They start relatively softly with the bell clearly audible but somewhat confused. Sannyasin 2 is more clear, confident and happy, followed by Sannyasin 3,almost a crescendo with the lively drum, bell and everything in harmony, as in a state of nirvana - the possible experience of a Sannyasin. |
