4.0 out of 5 stars good noise, August 29, 2002
This review is from: Dharma (Audio CD)
Harsh and ambient at the same time. This is one of my personal favorites to listen to to while mowing the yard. My lawn mower's engine makes an excellent companion to Merzbow's squelching hemorage inducing compositions. Along with noise pioneer Nursing Home Abuse, Merzbow have created a genre that is sure to make children cry when played at any 6 year old's birthday party.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad!, May 22, 2004
This review is from: Dharma (Audio CD)
Merzbow is an acquired taste. Japanese improvised electronic noise. Like historic noise groups such as AMM ,MEV and even Borbetomagus getting used to pure noise and knowing the difference between say garbage and talent is a tricky thing. AMM were the very best and still going since 1966. MEV were a sixties oddity and Borbetomagus are hit and miss talent wise but all were acoustic. Merzbow was electronic and pure sonic distortion. His early stuff was cut up tape manipulation followed by electronic/keyboard shriek. Then to now lap top computer. This album is the tail end of his electronic stuff and begining of his lap top era much more control and variation. Rough for the uninitiated but gold for fans.
