TiCo Hi-Density carbide is a specially formulated, highly compact Titanium Cobalt Carbide engineered and manufactured by Freud to maximize performance on all Freud cutting tools. Designed in Freud research and development laboratories, Freud's TiCo Hi-Density carbide is scientifically developed using Titanium Carbide, Cobalt and Tungsten (as well as proprietary elements), to produce a supreme product. Carbide size is extremely important when it comes to sharpness as well as the rate at which an edge wears. The larger the carbide grain, the faster an edge will wear. While standard carbides measure as large as 5 microns, and an advanced micrograin carbide can measure 1 micron, Freud's TiCo Hi-Density Carbide is miniscule in comparison at 0.8 microns, with a laminate blend as small as 0.4 microns.

I was somewhat apprehensive when I ordered this bit, the intended groove depth was very nearly the full depth of the cutter (3/8"), and as a multiple of cutter diameter is fully 4D deep. That seemed quite extreme to me, and I was very worried about the bit's durability in use. As it turns out, my concerns were entirely unfounded. This solid-carbide, Freud Industrial bit sliced through the oak like BUTTER. I made my deepest cuts in two passes, approximately 3/16" deep per pass, and I could hardly even feel the bit in the cut, the action was so smooth. The case required a finished length of 176" of cut, about a quarter of that 3/8" deep, and the rest about 1/4" deep. At the end of the project, inspection under a 30X scope showed no sign of damage to the bit what-so-ever. Tips were still crisp, edges were still sharp, no sign of heating, etc. This bit will be good for many more uses.
I will definitely be looking at the Freud line of bits additionally, this one performed far above even my most optimistic predictions.
I did have issues with the first one. I'm not certain whether or not it was damaged in shipping, or broken on my end, but the first of these broke. For the record, I have no complaints given that 1/16" is a very, very small bit!
