5.0 out of 5 stars The Brazilian culture survives the globalization!
This cd represents one of the best novelties from Brazilian music. Songs like "A Ponte (na Golden gate), Candeeiro encantado, O dia em que faremos contato and Dois olhos negros" bear that rithmic vitality present in many musical traditions of Brazil that remind us how good is being alive. Pay atention in the kid singing an "embolada" - a cutting...

I bought this album after I heard "Hoje Eu Quero Sair So" on Luaka Bop's "Beleza Tropical 2" compilation. That is one amazing and unusual song that displays musical virtuosity, ingenuity, danceable rhythms, catchy and memorable melodies, and Lenine's amazing voice. The song is extremely well crafted and very catchy and infectious. IMO, this one song alone is worth the...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Brazilian culture survives the globalization!, February 26, 2000
This review is from: Dia Em Que Faremos Contato (Audio CD)
This cd represents one of the best novelties from Brazilian music. Songs like "A Ponte (na Golden gate), Candeeiro encantado, O dia em que faremos contato and Dois olhos negros" bear that rithmic vitality present in many musical traditions of Brazil that remind us how good is being alive. Pay atention in the kid singing an "embolada" - a cutting prove that RAP is not a North American creation - in A Ponte. "Hoje eu só quero sair só" is a beautiful pop music song conveying that atmosphere only found in Rio de Janeiro. Finally, Marco marciano - a "repente" played with the almost mithic ten string viola whose sound resembles a harpsichord with a wonderful oriental like harmony - is a musical and poetical trip toward the transcendental. Although Lenine is on the road since a long time, it was only recently that he really started appearing for the big Brazilian public. I hope that this continues in a worldwide scale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, May 6, 2001
This review is from: Dia Em Que Faremos Contato (Audio CD)
When I first heard Lenine's "Hoje Eu Quero Sair So" on the Beleza Tropical II album that David Byrne put together, I was opened up to a whole new world: Brazilian music. Soon after falling in love with that track, I picked up this Lenine CD, which is good all the way through. I recommend this CD to anyone as a great introduction into what Brazilian music has to offer. I have subsequently started to listen to many other Brazilian artists and even made a brief trip to Brazil. My fascination with Brazil and Brazilian culture was born out of my love for the best song on this CD. By all means, buy this CD, but be forewarned that it might be the beginning of a larger love affair with Brazilian music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something to celebrate..., August 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Dia Em Que Faremos Contato (Audio CD)
It is an album full of rythms and references to Pernambuco, a state in the Northeast of Brazil. Not only that, Lenine, born in that state, but having lived in Rio for 20 years, represents the best of what has happened in Brazil in recent years. This album comes to show that Brazilian music remains full of a huge vitality and charm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Look for Lenine in documentary about NY SummerStage, August 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Dia Em Que Faremos Contato (Audio CD)
I saw this guy profiled on a documentary about NY City SummerStage Brazillian Festival. Look for it, it's really great. It appeared in NY area on PBS, last year sometime. It was long, at least 2 hours, covering some 10 artists or so.

I searched a long time before I found this CD, and it's just amazing. Bought one for a friend for her birthday. Wish I could speak Portuguese, wish I could find out more about this artist, and what he's up to today.

GREAT party CD, and for just upbeat listening. Fun for dancing.

Would welcome any info about this artist... hey, Amazon, where's the Real Audio samples???

5.0 out of 5 stars Creative modern Brazilian rock, September 23, 2002
This review is from: Dia Em Que Faremos Contato (Audio CD)
One hypnotic track on one of David Byrne's "BRAZIL CLASSICS" compilations was enough to send me scurrying out to pick this one up... and I wasn't disappointed at all! One of the most creative, listenable Brazilian pop artists out there today, very much in the tradition of Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil's best work... a fine mix of pop, trip-hop, samba and folk-blues styles. Recommended!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's not what I was expecting..., November 20, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dia Em Que Faremos Contato (Audio CD)
I bought this album after I heard "Hoje Eu Quero Sair So" on Luaka Bop's "Beleza Tropical 2" compilation. That is one amazing and unusual song that displays musical virtuosity, ingenuity, danceable rhythms, catchy and memorable melodies, and Lenine's amazing voice. The song is extremely well crafted and very catchy and infectious. IMO, this one song alone is worth the price of the CD.

So I had high hopes for this album. I was not disappointed, but...It's not what I was expecting, either.

In my opinion, this is NOT an album full of accessible pop songs in the "Hoje Eu Quero Sair So" vein. It's a more "serious" and "in your face" kind of work. I'm glad I own it. It's very interesting. But it's not something I put on when I want to relax or while I'm working. This album demands more of your attention.

Lenine is all over the musical road map. He's an innovator and experimentalist. He's a fantastic guitarist. He's an amazing vocalist. His arrangements are unusual and unique. I suppose his lyrics must be meaningful (some of the songs are very wordy -almost to the point of rap). I wish I spoke Portuguese.

Examples: "Bundalele" sounds like someone recorded a session at a samba school (it's a very cool song!). It's all rhythm and informal, happy group harmonies with a lone clarinet overlay. "Distantes Demais" is a mournful ballad: vocal, guitar, and harmonica (also a very cool song!).

I guess I'd have to say that Lenine's work is a little "odd." I like 8/14 songs enough that I put them into my media playlist for repeated listenings.

I'd rate this 3.5 if I could. "Hoje Eu Quero Sair So" might lead you to the belief that Lenine is some Brazilian pop crooner. If so, then album might not be what you expected, either. Whether you like the album or not depends on how willing you are to go along for the weird and wonderful musical rides Lenine takes you on.

A must listen album from one of the most innovative artists of the decade. Put him with diva Marisa Monte and Carlinhos Brown and you have a whole new music tale.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very nice album! Real music new experience!!, January 3, 2005
This review is from: Dia Em Que Faremos Contato (Audio CD)
At first, I heard about a guy called Lenine, composer, musician, But I wasn't feeling like buying one of his cd. And accidentally heard his album called 'Falange Canibal', and I felt in love about his music. It's a great experience, new methods of compousing music, new harmonies. Nothing is the same, every track is a new sound. A sound coming from the dayly experience, lived in a big town with a lot of contrasts. Very brazilian music, openned for the future. Very Good. Must have.
