Hope has been a dietitian and diabetes educator for more than thirty years. She has owned her Hope Warshaw Associates, LLC, for over twenty years. Her work today spans from corporate consulting to writing consumer articles and authoring numerous best-selling books. She counsels people with diabetes and those with weight concerns. Hope is most well known for her expertise in the areas of diabetes nutrition management and healthy restaurant eating.

Regardless of the hat Hope is wearing, she always strives to offer practical solutions to eating healthy and living well in today's fast-paced convenience-driven world. She is uniquely able to translate complex concepts into understandable language and action steps. From first-hand experience as a mother, wife and chief of shopping, planning and cooking for her busy family she's well aware that today particularly, people need realistic and easy-to-implement advice. Hope's promise: she won't suggest it if she can't do it.

Hope practices what she preaches to stay healthy and trim, whether it's splitting entrees at restaurants, pushing beans and vegetables on the homefront or walking a couple miles most days as the sun comes up. This book isn't just for diabetics; it's for anyone who wants to learn how to put together a nutritionally sound diet.

You'll come away understanding the Food Pyramid, daily requirements (for starches, carbs, protein, fats; with a explanation of difference between carbs and starches), calorie requirements, glycemix index & load, supplements, reading labels, portion sizes and simple ways to incorporate all this information into your daily life.

I don't understand why this isn't a dieting or nutrition bestseller. Absolutely outstanding

The third updated edition of a classic book on diabetes meal planning is a 'must' in any home diabetic's cookbook collection, as well as for public lending libraries. The best-seller has been completely revised to accommodate new eating and lifestyle habits, offering both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics and pre-diabetics and the newly diagnosed plenty of nutrition information and tips on healthy eating. From understanding portions and label information to menu planning, it holds everything needed to understand and modify a diet.

As a newly diagnosed diabetic, I have had a hard time figuring out what to eat and how to plan a meal, how do I know how much to eat, how to combine foods. It all boiled down to: "What can I eat?" This is not the only source I have used but this is the book that had all of the most accurate information and recommended guidelines. I did not like many, okay most, of the meal planning suggestions but I have been able to take that info and plan my meals based on the foods I do like. I've also tried a greater variety of foods and recipes in order to incorporate the meal planning goals in this book. I'm a long way from where I need to be but this book is an excellent tool to help me get there and I thoroughly recommend it.
