Book Description

Since the beginning of time, the angelic hosts of the High Heavens and the demonic hordes of the Burning Hells have been locked in a struggle for the fate of all creation. That struggle has now come to the mortal realm...and neither Man nor Demon nor Angel will be left unscathed....

What was to have been a victorious last stand against the demonic invasion of Entsteig has instead become a massacre. Only Siggard remains, a warrior unable to remember the final hours of the battle, driven by the carnage he experienced and the void in his mind to avenge those slain by the army of darkness. As he hunts the demon lord who butchered everything dear to him, Siggard also pieces together the truth of that terrible battle...and finds that his nightmare is only just beginning.

An original tale of swords, sorcery, and timeless struggle based on the bestselling, award-winning M-rated electronic game from Blizzard Entertainment. Intended for mature readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Travel with Siggard throught the world of Diablo January 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
imho, this book is well written and interesting :) Siggard awakes without memory of recent events and start a quest for answers. After his first encounter with a strange man, I couldn't stop reading it (a character any Diablo gamer will remember). Very good story and nice ending.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good, but Not Great May 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Being the fourth book in the Diablo series written by Robert Marks, and the sequel to one of my favorite trilogies of all time, i was expecting a lot from Demonsbane. What I got, however, was something less exciting. The story of Uldyssian was one of one mans love for his earth and his fellow man and woman, and how he would do anything to protect that and keep the reality and hope of humanity in tact. This sheer and unbridled desire took you on adventures of epic proportions, full of action and a continual sense of awe as he accomplishes the seemingly impossible time and time again due to his unmatched will to live and see justice done. He was faced with hardship and betrayal, loss and atrocity, and feats and acts that shook him to his core and made him question everything he fought for. The story of Siggard, however, was not nearly so deep and empowering. His journey is pretty straightforward, and a little dull, with only two locations of real note and the rest being transitional background. His enemies are unremarkable and largely forgettable, as they are all essentially fodder for slaughter, except for the greater demon Asure, who gets no real character development and only a few total lines of creation in the whole book, leaving his defeat empty and unsatisfying. Between whitescreen settings and faceless enemies the whole book feels flat, even the big plot twist is incredibly predictable from chapter one forward. But, by far my biggest issue with this book is the reason for the main character's fight. His family is slaughtered by the demons slaughterous march, and for this reason he swears revenge on the demon army and Asure himself, but this is such a minuscule aspect of the actual book it's hardly worth writing it in. I think the only reason he inserted this was so that the reader wouldn't wonder why he fought the demons at all. The discovery of the deaths lacked emotion almost to a `t`, as reading that he is crying is really the only inclination you have to believe that what is happening is sad. However, worse so is the fact that he lost both his wife and daughter to the demons, but the daughter only gets mention once from this point forward. This was, by far, the most infuriating part, because her death feels so meaningless. The only one that keeps him going in times of despair is the memory of his wife, and his daughter isn't even an afterthought, let alone a plot point. This feels like a cheap cliche, and it makes me wonder why Robert wrote her in at all. If you don't care about the daughter, she doesn't have to exist, you in no way obligated to make her important if she's not to you. Not that the loss of his wife is that much more devastating. You are mostly left to read Siggard adventure on, and in some action scene he makes vague mention to his pre-existing family and you go "Oh yeah, he had a wife and kid at one point", but that's likely to be the extent of the feelings you have for this supposedly tragic event and their brutal massacre. That being said, the characters of the living variety are decent enough to deal with, and the action sequences aren't completely garbage, though admittedly not as good as its predecessor, and the dialogue and banter are interesting enough, but the book has so many other glaring issues that it hardly makes it worth the read. The long and skinny of it is, that I bought this book with high expectations coming off such a high from the last adventure, and this one left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. If you absolutely must read every book in the series, this book isn't God awful, but otherwise I would skip this book entirely, because there's absolutely no element ofthis book that makes it a must-read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Demonsbane
While a fun read I felt the story was rather short and slightly unsatisfying in the end however overall it was worth the price and served as a decent outlet of entertainment.
