5.0 out of 5 stars Get this game. It is so cool!!!!!!!!! August 21, 2014
By Kai88
Platform for Display:PlayStation 4
I got this at release and had a chance to play it last night after the kids went to bed (9pm). I picked the crusader because I always like the paladin characters in any RPG. Started doing the quests, and getting all the loot. I have not played any version of Diablo since Diablo II 15+ years ago. The feel is familiar, but the graphics and game play is amazing. I want to try every single class. Very excited. I am 40 years old and I feel like a kid again. Played till 1am.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slap on a Diaper and Premake Sandwiches August 20, 2014
By Alex

Countless hours of my middle school self was up until 3am, lights off, modem muffled, and speakers on low, playing Diablo, while trying to not wake my parents. If they found me gaming on my old Gateway PC that late they would have slapped me up. Playing this awesome game was worth the risk. They never caught me, so it is obvious that I became a professional demon slayer.

Fast forward a couple years to high school. The only thing that changed was that I was playing Diablo 2, which at the time was the most addicting game I have ever played. I played Diablo 2 for many years and had every class, tons of mules, and thousands of hours logged. I don't know how many times I gave Mephisto the flying inverted lipton duffel to the face, just to see what kind of item I'd get. Anyone who has played this game knows the feeling.

When Diablo 3 was released, I played it and was utterly disappointed with the direction Blizzard took the game. A couple of years later they patched a few things and it was better, but it wasn't comparable to Diablo 2. My PC was stolen in November 2013, so I didn't get to experience Reaper of Souls and all of it's intricacies. The Ultimate Evil Edition for the PS4 is great and I would say up to par with what I believe Diablo 3 should have been initially.

Gameplay (evade rocks!), loot, and the Crusader are awesome. I'm still exploring the added features of the PS4 version, but if you're on the fence about the controls, don't be. It plays just like the PC in a sense. I don't feel like I'm being held back because I'm using a controller versus a mouse and keyboard. The hoards of demons get slapped up just like they did in Diablo and Diablo 2. They also did a great job with the menus. Equipping my Crusader is quick and easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three reasons to get this on console August 19, 2014
Platform for Display:PlayStation 4
There is so much to love about this, so you can go read the other reviews, including the PC Reaper of Souls reviews because a lot is the same.

Even with 300 hours logged on PC, I may never go back after getting this on my PS4. Here's why:

1) Local couch co-op is... a... blast! You and up to three other friends can bash away at demons until the wee hours of the morning and never want to stop. The drive for better gear and abilities drives everything, and it's contagious. The menus are well-optimized for console, but you may still have to be a little patient when playing local multiplayer. Everyone wants to get their character right, you know.

2) I bet I'm not the only one who can't stomach getting a gaming PC for one reason or another. The PS4 version looks a million times better than ROS on my MacBook Pro, and I can't imagine it looking better! No one would argue that the PC can give the best-looking experience, but at a cost. The PS4 never drops a frame.

3) Controllers work wonderfully in combat! The menus take some getting used to (and believe me, you'll spend a lot of time there), but you will get used to it. You'll get the most out of managing loot (particularly in local multiplayer when everyone has to do it) if you force yourself to tag the loot you plan to sell as "junk". You can bulk-sell your "junk" at merchants in one press. But back to combat, it's wonderful, yes, even for ranged characters!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money. August 23, 2014
By Michael
Platform for Display:PlayStation 4|Verified Purchase
All in all, this game is definitely worth the $60 it costs. I was a longtime fan of Diablo II and played it off and on for many years. When Diablo III first came out, I wasn't ready to take the leap- reviews were mixed and I figured I would let them work out the kinks. When I saw D3 was being released for PS4 with the expansion pack, I jumped on it.

Changes for Console:
My first impression was that the game looks absolutely fantastic on PS4 and a big HD tv. Very smooth gameplay and directly controlling your character with the PS4 joystick gives you a more personal experience than clicking. The downside to using a console controller is the reliance on auto-selecting monsters to throw your attacks at (wherever your character is facing, it will auto-select the nearest monster to attack). I got over this quickly. I was also somewhat disappointed that the item selection is on a scroll wheel, rather than the classic look of your character and the items hovering over that part of the body. But, it makes sense that things like that had to be adapted to a console controller. In short, if you're used to playing Diablo on a PC, there's some adjustments to be made- but it's worth it.

Story:
The story was pretty weak compared to Diablo II. However, the cutscenes were visually stunning on a large screen and the sound is great. Acts 1-3 were fun. Act 4 was SO short and anti-climatic. The transition to Act 5 was a little choppy, but Act 5 was very fun and robust. The final boss was a good time, but a let-down when the game ends by a pop-up screen asking if you would like to, "return to the main menu"- it felt rushed. All in all, the story felt much shorter and easier to complete than D2's ever did. The world of D3 feels smaller than D2 as well.
