About the Author
Richard A. Prayson, MD, is the section head of neuropathology at Cleveland Clinic. He also works with Cleveland Clinic’s Anatomic Pathology and Neurological Surgery departments, as well as its Brain Tumor Institute. Dr. Prayson earned his medical degree at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and joined Cleveland Clinic in 1993.

This book has 11 brief chapters that discuss different aspects of autopsies, including the following: (1) introduction to basic terminology; (2) what kinds of information can be learned from an autopsy; (3) how autopsies provide information that can benefit the living; (4) a history of the autopsy; (5) how an autopsy is performed; (6) forensic autopsy for civil and criminal cases; (7) what happens to the body after an autopsy; (8) who consents to an autopsy; (9) some religious perspectives on autopsy; (10) ethical issues associated with autopsy; and (11) reasons why autopsies are declining in number, and some consequences of that decline. The book also has a bibliography that includes references to Web-based resources, books, and articles.
The book is written at a basic, introductory level and does not assume the reader has formal training in medicine, human anatomy, or forensic medicine. It is written in a style suitable for nonprofessionals interested in, or curious about, autopsies. It is too basic and introductory for any professional interested in detailed or technical aspects of autopsies.

I found most of this book (a Kindle download) to be most interesting, but, then, I also think Death to Dust: What Happens to Dead Bodies? was great, too, so go figure. LOL
If you're interested in the subject or perhaps are an author of mysteries you will probably find this book useful. I know someone who was diagnosed with a bizarre genetic disorder a good while after death because of her autopsy and the samples saved from it, so autopsies are still useful, even if they aren't done as much anymore (and the book explains some reasons for this).

The product description accurately described this book. It talks about why autopsies are important.
As someone who is fascinated by shows like CSI, I expected to enjoy this book, but unfortunately I did not. I tried to force myself to keep going to the end before writing the review, but could only make it to about 40% done before I quit to find something better to read.
If you're a medical student, or just curious about autopsies in general, this may be the book for you. It was not the book for me. It was a free download for my kindle, and I'm glad I didn't pay any money for this one.
