Book Description

May 2005
DC:0-3 was the first developmentally based system for diagnosing mental health and developmental disorders in infants and toddlers. Its diagnostic categories reflected the consensus of a multidisciplinary group of experts in early childhood development and mental health. The newly revised DC:0-3R draws on empirical research and clinical practice that have occurred worldwide since 1994. DC:0-3R is designed to help mental health and other professionals. The features include: recognize mental health and developmental challenges in young children; understand how relationships and environmental factors contribute to mental health and developmental disorders; use diagnostic criteria effectively for classification and intervention; and work more effectively with parents and other professionals to develop effective treatment plans. DC:0-3R enhances your ability to prevent, diagnose, and treat mental health problems in the earliest years by identifying and describing disorders not addressed in other classification systems and by pointing the way to effective intervention approaches.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The DC:0-3 framework acknowledges the importance of early relationships and moves us beyond classifying symptom patterns to a process of comprehensive and dynamic formulation of functional emotional level, developmental status, relationship context, and the meaning of a child's presenting behavioral pattern. The five axes of the DC:0-3 are effective in highlighting questions of differential diagnosis and the diagnostic system leads to a sensible treatment plan and to a more meaningful dialogue between clinicians and families." - Donna R. Weston, PhD, University of Washington"

I have been using DC 0-3 for many years and was excited to be able to study the changes in the nomenclature with this newest revision. There are some interesting changes and additions that require that everyone that works with this population must purchase this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great addition, October 23, 2006
This review is from: Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood, (DC: 0-3R) (Paperback)
The changes in the RDC-PA to the DC:0-3R are very helpful to the field and a compliment to the DSM-IV-TR. Great for classification of young children. Very good efforts in validity and reliability.

5.0 out of 5 stars DC:0-3R, February 19, 2008
This review is from: Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood, (DC: 0-3R) (Paperback)
This book is very helpful for the diagnosis and treatment planning of small children. I took a class on how to utilize it in a clinical setting and the purpose of it's publication. It is not recognized in certain states though.
