Book Description

Authored and edited by one of the world's most prominent neuroradiologists, this innovative text is certain to become the new standard among diagnostic brain imaging references. The second volume in the new Diagnostic Imaging Series from Amirsys and Saunders, it features a templated full-color format that makes finding information much easier. Each chapter presents all of the information readers need to pinpoint a diagnosis. Coverage of each entity addresses Clinical Presentation · Pathologic Features · Imaging Findings for the appropriate modalities · and Differential Diagnosis lists. In addition, chapters have detailed anatomic drawings in full color, an extensive image case gallery, and a visual "thumbnail" differential diagnosis. Numerous surgical, gross and histologic pathology photographs are included. No other neuro imaging text is as comprehensive and user-friendly. The unique bulleted format provides efficient reading, with the same information in the same place-every time! It's as if an expert has done the highlighting for you!
  • Covers the top diagnoses in brain, including both common and uncommon entities.
  • Uses a concise, highly templated approach-similar to POCKETRADIOLOGIST®-but provides more details for each heading, more references, many more images, and more case data. You get twice the facts, and four times the images as other texts. There is no extra verbiage!
  • Each section offers a 4 page introduction covering the anatomy or pathology and imaging issues pertaining to the specific diagnoses covered in that section.
  • Offers a vivid, full-color design with over 150 color anatomy and pathology drawings with color tabs keying each section
  • Provides detailed coverage of key facts and differential diagnosis.
  • Includes an extensive image gallery for each entity with common and variant cases
  • Displays a "thumbnail" visual differential diagnosis for each entity.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The strengths of this text lie in the extensive information, the vast image collection, and the easy-to-read format. This book should serve as a valuable resource to the experienced neuroradiologist, or the advanced trainee preparing for oral boards or the CAQ exam." -AuntMinnie.com, Aug. 2004

"This is one of a series of eagerly anticipated new texts. The graphic illustrations and images are of the highest quality. This book is a wonderful addition to anyone's library. When you open this book, you do so with reverence, noting the care that went into selecting the fine images and illustrations. Dr. Osborn and her co-editors should be congratulated for providing a new textbook that excels many others in the pool of neuroradiology texts, and one that will be treasured for years." - Journal of Neurosurgery, Feb. 2005

"Diagnostic Imaging: Brain, Diagnostic Imaging: Spine, and Diagnostic Imaging: Head & Neck...present the reader with a remarkable set of beautifully illustrated and highly educational textbooks.

"[T]he color illustrations alone are worth the price of admission, not only because they convey the essentials of the diagnosis, but also because they spectacularly correlate with the CT and MR images...Buy this set of three books, recommend them to all those in neurosciences, make sure your departmental library has every one of the volumes, and refer to them often."- AJNR Aug. 2005

4.0 out of 5 stars Should have been better!, February 28, 2006

This review is from: Diagnostic Imaging: Brain (Hardcover)
Her textbook Diagnostic Neuroradiology had made quite an impact when it came out. The only comparable book was that by Ruth Ramsey previously. Since that textbook had been the reference for everybody, a new edition was expected by everybody. This new format comes as a surprise. While it is certainly more exhaustive in scope than her previous book (taht was a bit skimpy on the spine IMHO), the format used does not do too well with me. I have personally never really liked these list-type textbooks. This is of course a good reference for anyone who wants to look up something during daily routine (even if each reference section is somewhat too short) but it cannot really be used to learn the basics of neuroradiology that one neeeds for training. The sometimes lengthy discussions in the book by Taveras are needed in order to approach Neuroradiology as an art. while you probably have to buy this for reference you must also get another textbook.
