5.0 out of 5 stars Not a thing to complain about.
This is actually the first album I ever bought by No Motiv, and I was immediately hooked. The way the lead vocalist turns his voice is awesome and gives their music a distinct sound. I first heard "Give Me Strenghth" on a Vagrant comp., so that one will always be one of my favorites. I also love the darker sounds on "Broken and Burned" and...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK for a 4th release
Not as good as their earlier stuff. They seem to get poppier and slower. I liked them better when the were a more authentic punk band...Their first record Cynical was fast and tight with great melody..definately their best. I heard the CD Scarred and it slowed down a bit and then Sadness even slower. Now they are becoming more of just another pop band trying to write...

Great buy, every song on here leaves you amazed. Nice packaging, too. If you've never listened to them, buy this album first and then move on to their older stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars THESE GUYS ROCK!, March 11, 2002
By
This review is from: Diagram for Healing (Audio CD)
I saw these guys recently at the Troubadour and they are awesome. They are one of my favorite bands of all time. They really should be bigger than they are. They have beautiful lyrics with great music. This is what emo and indie rock should be all about. All the songs are solid but all time favorites: Break it down, Only you, get a new life. I'm going to see them with Fenix TX too! Can't wait. BUY the CD. you won't regret it. I've listened to the whole thing through too many times to count.

I brought this quite a while ago and didnt get a chance to listen to it for about a month then one day i took it to work with me and since then it has come with me every day. I listen to it 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week. It is an album you can never get bored off. The best tracks are 'Give me strengh', 'Only You','Break it down' and 'Let it go'. Also check out Rufio - another great band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Diagram for Rockin', June 27, 2001
This review is from: Diagram for Healing (Audio CD)
It would be easy, upon hearing their catchy chords and spur-of-the-moment lyrics, to dump No Motiv in the popular pop-punk category and be done with it. But, such a label ignores the depth of the band's sophomore effort, `Diagram for Healing'. At first glance, the album may seem predictably poppy, but more careful listening reveals a deeper, darker, and more brooding feel. Tracks like "Broken and Burned" have the distinctive delicate-yet-rockin' sound of Jimmy Eat World. In fact, a Jimmy Eat World-esque feel permeates the album, underlying the traditional pop-rock. The heartfelt lyrics reveal regret, resignation and hope for the future. Trevor Keith of Face to Face produced the album, and you can hear it. The album as a whole underscores No Motiv's growing confidence as a band, and a new level of maturity for their music. Jeremy Palaszewski, leader singer, speaks from the heart when he says, in "To The Roots", "Yeah, we're gonna rock and roll..."

5.0 out of 5 stars Their best cd - and one of the best. EVER. (Yes, EVER!)., January 30, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Diagram for Healing (Audio CD)
"Diagram For Healing" is No Motiv's best cd, by far. While "...And the Sadness Prevails" is great and "Daylight Breaking", their newest release, is also excellent, there is no doubt that this cd finds them at their apex. Every song is so undeniably catchy: the lyrics, the instrumentation - it is all perfect. The album runs the gamut from hardcore punk ("Going Numb") to pop-punk ("Throw in the Towel" and "Get a life") to rock ("Celebrate") to pure emo ("Give me Strength" and the best song on the cd, "Born again").

This album is much less heavy than their first hardcore punk releases: "Cynical" and "Scarred", which are nearly impossible to find anyway. It is the natural progression from "...And the Sadness Prevails". It is the perfect balance between melody and hardcore rock. "Daylight Breaking" is great, but not as melodic or as singable or listenable as this.

To put it simply, you won't be able to take this out of your cd player. One of the 10 best albums I have ever heard (and this is coming from someone who considers U2 and Rush among his favorite bands, not some 12-year-old who has never heard anything other than Blink-182).

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Album I've Ever Heard, November 26, 2007
This review is from: Diagram for Healing (Audio CD)
No Motiv may be the best band you've never heard of. Scientific and sonic proof of that exists on No Motiv's sophmore release for indie label giant Vagrant Records, Diagram For Healing. Released in 2001, Diagram For Healing stands out in my mind as one of the best overall albums to have ever been recorded. Building on the sad-yet-strong sound they established on their debut album ...And the Sadness Prevails, No Motiv swung for the fences on this disk. It's a grand slam in every sense of the phrase. The album mourns on tracks such as "Broken and Burned" and "Only You", stops to think on tracks like "Let It Go" and "Born Again", and blisters on tracks like "Going Numb" and "Savior". Only two of the thirteen tracks feel out of place. Album opener "Celebrate" and centerpiece "To The Roots" are the only two good cuts in a field of greats. You'll be hard pressed to find a better all around album than this nearly anywhere. This album alone stands as the bridge between today's post-hardcore scene, and the emotional rock of yesteryear. The only problem, is that you'll also be hard pressed to find this album on a record store shelf near you. Though easily available online, rarely if ever will a No Motiv disk be found at your local Wal Mart. Order this album as soon as you can. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely amazing, April 2, 2002

when this cd first came out, i listened to it for about a month straight... when i was in the car, at home, on the computer, at school, anywhere. this is just one of those albums. standout songs are: broken and burned, give me strength, savior... and the absolutely best no motiv song ever: born again. i can't even begin to tell you how completely amazing this song is. also, the recording quality is excellent. if you're going to buy this, make sure you don't have any other cds you're listening to right now, because this one will take over your stereo and who knows when it will let you have it back.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good poppy-punk, November 20, 2001

No Motiv is a great band. This is a good CD. The music is a bit emo a la MxPx, but No Motiv has its own sound which is great. If you listen to them, be prepared to be singing along within minutes and possibly for the rest of the day. It's not groundbreaking stuff, but it's solid, and worth the listen.
