3.0 out of 5 stars works, but isnt natural
i used to use fels naptha to make my laundry soap, but i am sure they changed the recipe. when i started up again 2 years ago i noticed that it smells like chemicals. the ingredients list is not very specific but doesn't look natural. it works well if you can get around the scent but whats the point of making your own soap if it is just as full of chemicals as the...

5.0 out of 5 stars best stain remover on the planet, June 18, 2007
By

Fels-Naptha is the most amazing spot cleaner I have found and it's easy to use! It takes out grass stains, very oily stains, ring around the collar and even orange soda pop that has been on a t-shirt for 2 weeks. Just wet the problem spot and rub the wet soap bar into the bad stain. Once you have the spot all lathered up, rub the fabric too, like how the old fashioned scrub board was used. Throw the clothing in the washing machine. Remember heat sets the stain, so don't put the item in the dryer until you make sure the stain is really gone. Really bad items like fabric yellowed by age may take 2 treatments. I buy some really nice clothes at garage sales and thrift stores then treat the spots with Fels Naptha. It helps me have a fabulous wardrobe I wouldn't buy otherwise. This soap even works on silk. I find breaking the bar in half helps make it easier to use. I hope they make this soap forever!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for washing clothes in the washer & for spot treating, January 10, 2009
This review is from: Dial Corp. 04303 Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Soap (Health and Beauty)
As other reviewers have said, this is a great spot treatment. However, they're working too hard! I just put a bar in a pitcher with hot tap water and let it dissolve as much as it will, to create a saturated solution. I use an old toothbrush and this solution for spot treating, and I pour 1-4oz of this liquid soap into the washing machine as a great detergent substitute! (I also add 1 T. of washing soda + Borax combined)

It's cheap, easy, and effective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Poison Ivy Treatment I have ever used, July 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dial Corp. 04303 Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Soap (Health and Beauty)
My Grandmother used to soap us up with the lather from Fels Naptha when we caught poison ivy when I was a child. As an adult I suffered through all the more modern treatments in the drug store and even Bert's Bees Poison Ivy Soap, but nothing really worked on the nasty strain I have in my area. I caught PI again this year and decided to go back to the old fashioned remedy. It was wonderful. It dried the rash up very fast and stopped the infernal itching. I just made a lather in the shower and let it sit on my skin for a few minutes 2x per day.

I also used it on the clothes that were exposed to the Poison Ivy plant. The oils from the plant will stay with the clothing unless they are washed with a strong grease cutter. This soap does the job well.

WATCH THE PRICE: I bought my soap on Amazon for $4.99 per bar, and then found it in my local hardware store (in the cleaning supply isle) for $1.29 per bar.

4.0 out of 5 stars great for stains, March 5, 2008
By
nic (los angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
there are two products I use to treat stains on laundry: soilove (for perspiration stains) and fels naptha (for everything else). this big bar of yellow soap will get out pretty much any stain. I have used it on blood that it well set (dried on about a week prior to treating), and after applying this and letting it sit for 10 minutes before throwing it in the washer, it came out completely. it's gotten out food stains, dirt/mud stains, etc. again w/ just treating and letting sit for 5 or 10 minutes before putting in the washer. amazing stuff. I used to make my own laundry detergent w/ this stuff as well, and it worked at least as well as commercial detergents. my only complaint is the scent, which is why I only gave it 4 stars; in my home made detergent the scent of this would linger, and I hated it (kind of smelled like funky salsa once the clothes were out of the dryer), but w/ pretreating I haven't noticed that.

5.0 out of 5 stars No longer contains Stoddard's solvent, March 5, 2010
This review is from: Dial Corp. 04303 Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Soap (Health and Beauty)
According to the best information I can gather, Fels Naptha no longer contains Stoddard's Solvent (The info on Wikepedia is dated, obviously.) or Napthalene, etc.

It is an excellent spot remover and I use it in preference to other soaps when I make my own liquid laundry detergent. I don't think it is intended to be a face, body, or hand soap; but a laundry soap (We used to use bar soap to do laundry in a tub with a washboard when I was a child); and I would recommend it for this purpose.

5.0 out of 5 stars FELS-NAPTHA SOAP, January 30, 2010

This review is from: Dial Corp. 04303 Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Soap (Health and Beauty)
I have purchased the Fels-Naptha soap to make my own laundry detergent, but I have already used it as a stain remover with excellent results. I just wanted to let everyone know that you can purchase the Fels-Naptha soap at Kroger for $1.29. It is located down the laundry detergent aisle. You can also purchase the Borax and the A&H washing soda at Kroger. Thanks for the information that you can use the soap for poison ivy(My husband is allergic to poison ivy) I will defintely be using this for poison ivy treatment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soap Star!, December 1, 2006
By
J. Nowicki "The Boss and Mrs. B." (Bay City, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)

Fels Naptha Heavy Duty Laundry Soap is absolutely the best. We have used this mighty bar soap on our clothes for years. As a matter of fact, our mothers and our grandmothers used this very same brand, so we can truthfully say it has been a family favorite for generations. Instead of using bleach that can eat through the fabric, try Fels Naptha. West the soap bar, wet the spot, rub the Fels Naptha in, rinse then launder as usual in your washing machine. Nine and a half times out of ten the stain will be gone. Or it will, at least, lighten the stain. Now that is what I call a real Soap Star! Another great laundry product is Zout Laundry Stain Remover, Liquid, 12 fl oz. Between the two of them your laundry stains will be easily managed. ~ The Boss (Mrs. B. agrees!)

5.0 out of 5 stars removes Hawaii red dirt like a charm, October 27, 2009
By
This review is from: Dial Corp. 04303 Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Soap (Health and Beauty)
Dial Corp. 04303 Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Soap a fellow soccer mom here in hawaii recommended this to the rest of the moms to remove red dirt stains from white uniforms. i was doubtful, because my experience has proven to me that red dirt doesn't come out. i was proven wrong after using this wonderful product.

i've also successfully removed an old stain from a nylon/spandex white blouse. i'm not sure what type of stain, but nothing could get it out, including Febreze, diluted bleach, clorox 2, etc.

i was so afraid of having to abandon the blouse, but i didn't have to now that i got rid of the stain w/ this Fels Naptha bar.

I never knew that this bar of soap could do so much! And, as much as I love Amazon, I found it much cheaper at Walmart - 99 cents!
