5.0 out of 5 stars Gotthard at their best
This is probably Gotthard's heaviest album. The production is better than e.g. on "G" and makes the whole thing sound a little less raw than the previous albums. Don't get me wrong, I like the old stuff, too ("Hush" is a killer), but "Dial Hard" is even better. It also feature the obligatory cover version, this time it's "Come...

The second album from Gotthard is titled "DIAL HARD" (1994) and the band continue in the same direction as the first album but this time it's a bit more polished - still heavy metal though! While Gotthard did a cover of "Hush" the last time, they have now chosen Beatles' "Come together" and they managed to do a great version. The songs on "DIAL HARD" are mainly of high...

The songs on "DIAL HARD" are mainly of high standard even if one could ask for more originality since the material melts together like it did on the debut album. But with songs like the groovy "Mountain mama", the bluesy "I'm your travelin' man", and the strutting "Dirty devil rock", Gotthard really shine from time to time.

Favorite songs: "She goes down" - cool heavy guitar riff; "I'm on my way" - nice ballad; "Come together" - slightly harder than the original *grin*. There are no fillers on the album, every single song is worth your money.

Switzerland is more than Krokus and Celtic Frost!!!
Gotthard has always been a favorite in Europe, and it is easy too see why. Pure, clean hard rock in the vain of early Def Leppard. Throw in a pinch of Bon Jovi and a morsel of AC/DC and you got Gotthard. Highly recommended for anyone with a taste of classic Hard Rock with a modern touch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong second album by the best melodic rock band on the planet, April 2, 2010
This review is from: Dial Hard (Audio CD)
Released in 1994, Dial Hard was the second album from Swiss melodic rockers Gotthard. Now, 1994 wasn't exactly prime time for melodic rock, so you have to appreciate bands like Gotthard that stuck to their guns instead of trying to suddenly become "alternative." Dial Hard is every bit as fun and rocking as the debut Gotthard release.

Gotthard is more or less the Swiss Bon Jovi. They play upbeat, catchy, feel-good, melodic rock & roll, and they're among the best they are at what they do. I dare anyone to listen to an album like Dial Hard and not nod your head or stomp your feet. This is great stuff, and so much fun to listen to. Incredible melodies, irresistible guitar hooks and Steven Lee's amazing vocals all make for a winning formula. It's slightly bluesy, slightly AC/DC-ish, and all rockin'. Oh, and check out their cover of the Beatles' "Come Together," which is one of the album's better tracks, not that there's a bad song to be found here.

I can't imagine anyone who is into classic and/or melodic rock being disappointed by this Dial Hard. If you're into bands like The Poodles, Tyketto, Human Zoo, Fair Warning, Bonfire, or Pink Cream 69, this band and album should be an absolute winner. It's a crying shame America will never discover this hugely successful (multi-platinum in Switzerland, several times over) band.

I have been a Gotthard fan for awhile. Had one of their other CD's for about 3 years and listened to it quite a bit. Got this one in the "reduced" import section of one of the local record shops I visit. Killer all the way around. Great drum sound, excellent vocal performance, classic Gibson / Marshall guitar sound. Song arranging and guitar solos are also excellent. I play locally here in a hard rock trio and plan on using this CD as a platform for it's structure. The only downer is the 2 live tracks at the end of the CD. Poor sound compared to the rest of the CD. Steve does do a mean Robert Plant though. If you have heard of this band and are a fan, this is a "must have" from these guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars BLUES + ROCK + CATCHY SONGS = BIG ALBUM, February 14, 2006
This review is from: Dial Hard (Audio CD)
TOGETHER WITH "G", ONE OF THE BEST HARD ROCK/ BLUES ALBUMS OF THESE LAST YEARS. TO ME, IT'S EVEN BETTER THAN THEIR FIRST ALBUM. I DON'T KNOW WHICH IS THE BEST, "G" OR THIS ONE. I CAN ONLY SAY THAT THESE KIND OF 4/4 SONGS ARE THE SONG PEOPLE LIKE. THESE ARE THE SONGS PEOPLE LIKE LISTENING TO WHILE THE RIDE A MOTORCYCLE THROUGH THE ENDLESS DESERT OF ARIZONA OR NEVADA. THESE KIND OF SONGS GIVE ME THE POWER TO SCREAM MY HAPPINESS AND THE POWER THAT I FEEL INSIDE TO THE ENTIRE WORLD. THE FIRST TWO, THE FOURTH , BUT I WOULD SAY, ALL OF THEM, THEY ARE VERY POWERFUL SONGS, JUST LIKE A FIST IN YOUR STOMACH. THESE SONGS HAVE THE POWER OF HARD ROCK AND THE FEELING OF BLUES. IF YOU BUY THIS ALBUM AND YOU DON'T LIKE IT, I REFUND YOU (IT IS A JOKE, EHEHEHE). I CAN BET ANYTHING YOU WILL LIKE THIS HEAVY, TOUGH, HARD, POWERFUL, STRONG ALBUM.
AND, TO THE END OF THE ALBUM, THERE IS THE CLASSIC BALLAD THAT WILL MAKE YOU FINALLY REST. ONE VERY GOOD ALBUM, BECAUSE THEY MIXED THE POWER OF THE HARD ROCK & THE SOUND OF BLUES. WHAT ELSE I CAN SAY ? "I'M YOUR TRAVELIN MAN" IS ONE THE BEST SONG, I WOULD SAY. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE "G", BUY THIS, TOO. BECAUSE IT'S SIMILAR, BUT AT THE SAME TIME DIFFERENT. SONGS SPEAK BY THEMSELVES.
