5.0 out of 5 stars The Way of Jesus, July 25, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dialogue on Awakening (Paperback)
This is another excellent "channeled" book. It is very easy to read and follow if you have completed "A Course In Miracles" or ACIM. There are questions in italics from Tom Carpenter with answers from Jesus. There are also monologs or what I would call pure sermons; non judgmental sermons. The following is one of my favorite and helpful dialogs:

Tom Carpenter: "I fear that I won't get direction from my whole Self. I guess the reason that I say that is because so often when I have asked for direction; to my knowledge I haven't received it.

Jesus: "You are expecting to hear the angel's trumpets, but this is not the way you communicate with your Self or with me. You listen to the voice that brings you peace. However mundane and familiar or unfamiliar that voice sounds, you can rest assured that you are hearing the voice of your Self when you hear it with a sense of peace. When you are in conflict, which you most certainly are when you are striving, you will not experience peace and you will know that you are experiencing the voice of the ego."

This above dialogue is so easy to practice as you experience your journey thru the day. It is so clear to an ACIM student/teacher. My next favorite is what happens when you leave the body:

Tom Carpenter: "When we are not in the physical dimension, are we aware that we are perfection?

Jesus: "The essence of the question is whether or not your awareness changes automatically as you experience yourself without a body. The nature of your experiences will change, because you currently define them in terms of how they will affect your body. But the meaning of your experiences, then as now, is determined by your perception of what constitutes the true nature of your Being. Having or not having a body does not automatically change your mind about who you are. The acceptance of your perfection is as readily available to you now as it ever will be. This statement would be equally true if you did not experience yourself as having a body."

What an incredible answer! You see it is like this thru the whole book. The question is clarified by Jesus and answer is simple and easy to grasp and practice. The next one is titled "It Doesn't Matter What You Do":

Tom Carpenter: "In the last year, I have been feeling a conflict with continuing to do my volunteer work and at the same time part of me seems to be saying I shouldn't be a quitter but should finish what I've started. If I do quit the volunteer work there is a void, will the universe fill the void for me?

Jesus: "Let me say two things. First, I will attempt to eliminate a lot of the mystery which surrounds the question, `What shall I do? What are the things that I may do that will bring me closer to the realization and recognition of my peace within and ultimately to the discovery and remembrance of myself?' And I will say to you, it is totally immaterial what you do. It matters not. Please hear me and dwell upon this."

"It does not matter what you do. The significance of anything you attach yourself to is the why of your doing it.

"We will return once again to the premise that there is nothing happening in your world except that which is expressive and reflective of your thinking process at any given moment. Should you elect to work on any council, do so. Do so and ask yourself why you are there. What is it you are trying to discover, that you are trying to teach yourself through this experience?

"Allow whatever choice may be to become the lesson. The task will be unimportant: why are you doing it will mean everything. As you come to a closer alignment with this understanding, you will ultimately know that you may choose any task, or you may choose no task, and the result will be exactly the same."

Great wisdom! Not WHAT but WHY you do the things that you do. There is never any criticism about the Bible. Listen!

Tom Carpenter: "Where did the statement in the Bible come from that man had been given dominion over all things? Was that a mistake or not accurate?"

Jesus: "That is, in fact a misperception. The meaning that was attempted to be communicated was that man had dominion over his own thoughts and so also over what those thoughts made manifest. And within that realm, he would in no way be a victim to any circumstances that he subsequently did experience."

Ok.......fair enough to accept but what of those who follow the Bible to the letter................

Tom Carpenter: "I do have such a sense of satisfaction in sharing your truth with others because I know it has been so changed in the Bible. Are you saying that this is not really important?"

Jesus: "Were you to see this from my and your undistorted point of view, you would see that you are already perfectly expressed. There is nothing about you that is lacking. There is nothing about you that does not perfectly express the Love of our Father. What I also see is that you are sleeping. In your state of current conscious awareness, when you see any brother in his sleep, would you criticize him for being asleep and tell him that his dreams are not as good as yours? Or will you rest in the total assurance that when he is ready he will wake up?"

As I said before, the language is easy to understand and supports ACIM but without the Divine/Superior language of ACIM that can leave you suspended in "space" if your study is temporarily interrupted by other relevant/non relevant thoughts. There are many other dialogues about the life of Jesus and the crucifixion but one thing remains constant. Jesus has nothing that we don't already have. Simply wakeup and accept it as the Truth!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, it really IS this simple!, June 2, 2000

I've been on what I call my "spiritual path" for 13 years, and the foundation of my life is A Course in Miracles. If you had trouble understanding the Course, because of the way it was worded, read "Dialogue on Awakening..." You won't be confused anymore. This book covers it all, but it definitely challenges our beliefs about the way a spiritual path works.

Tom Carpenter's book is the clearest explaination of "A Course in Miracles" that I have ever seen. I have read this book many times, and gain insight from each reading. Its guide for "awakening" to our natural state of peace and love just makes sense!

5.0 out of 5 stars You have found a great tool., January 6, 2007

This review is from: Dialogue on Awakening (Paperback)
This book is a fantastic tool to unlocking our belief systems that block not just our ability to begin to understand the Course in Miracles, but the purpose behind the Course, our awakening. If you want to really be guided on how to break free from this paradigm that we ascribe to, do not hesitate and get this book. It really is that good. It reads easily and answers the big questions with a directness and consistency that gives one assurance of Truth.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Room for Misinterpretation, November 14, 2006
This review is from: Dialogue on Awakening (Paperback)
This book, "Dialogue on Awakening", is an extremely powerful force not to be compared to any other book. All I can say is that when you are ready for these direct and poignant answers to all the questions you think stumble you on your journey Home, the book is there. It leaves no room for misinterpretation, it discusses very real concerns in our modern world and it rings of Truth so much you cannot deny it. I send much gratitude to Tom and Linda for sharing this dialogue with us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dialogue on Awakening is a superb book, January 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dialogue on Awakening (Paperback)
I just read it for the second time. I got even more out of it the second time (perhaps 6 months in between readings and expanded and "new" insights emerged as a result). This is a REALLY WONDERFUL text. (Am A Course in Miracles "student" and have been for many years. ) This book reinforces, expands, and in some ways also clarifies. (Personally, I benefit from all the reinforcement I can get for these concepts and so read material besides and along with CIM.) I highly recommend it !! I will certainly re-read it again...and certain passages will no doubt be read daily for periods of time.
(The only section that was not an important fit for me was the chapter on life of Jesus. I did not feel the need to re-read that particular chapter...as this (historical personae/details) aspect is not so relevant for me.) The rest of it is enormously helpful for me to read and then re-read and keep referring to ! If you are along this type of path, I expect you will be truly glad to read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tom is a wonderful teacher, February 21, 2002
This review is from: Dialogue on Awakening (Paperback)
Tom expresses the clarity of truth in the Course in beautiful ways. I found his book, as well as his teaching and his presence, most helpful and healing when I was privileged to spend time with him and Linda, his wife, a wonderful counselor in her own right.
