Having previously bought the NX-01 and NCC-1701A models by Art Asylum, my expectations were high. Overall I am pleased. The basic shape and details on the toy are well done and correct to the ship as seen in the features. This is especially nice when compred to the two previously released Playmates versions of the same ship, which were horribly inaccurate. So in the areas of sculpting and modeling, this version is superb.
The one area that I was disappointed in was in the paint-job. Some of the colors used seem far too 'contrast-y' compared to the way the model and CGI version appear on screen. When compared with footage from the films, the gray patches on the secondary hull of the toy seem really dark, whereas the film shots show a much more subtle grade of shading overall. I was also slightly disappointed that the blue areas of the Nacelles did not light up, and that the alternate hull bottom without the mounting hole( included with the previous Art Asylum ships ) was apparently dropped for this release. Still, overall I would recommend this toy for those like me who don't care to build models much anymore.

Excellent Replica But........,

This is an excellent replica of the enterprise-e but I have two tiny problems with it. One the windows aren't painted and two the coloring isn't totally correct. I guess that's to be expected considering that you can't really tell exactly what the actual colors are from the shots of it in any of the movies.
Over all I like this toy it's alot better than the playmates version several years ago. That thing was grossly inacurate!!!! I have a model kit of the enterprise-e that I haven't built yet. Since I found this maybe I'll either sell it or build it anyway. If I do build that kit I'll use this toy as a referance and change some of the coloring to what I think it should be. Bottom line, if you're someone who's tired of building models this is the item for you. You might want to paint the windows to give it a more complete paint job though.

Out of the box, the ship needs a reset. You should follow the instructions at the bottom to reset it. It's defaulted to only 1 sound for demonstration, but will give all sounds after a reset.
Product shipped fine. No problems. Overall good.

Well as many other's before me have said before about this product well I must agree. The color scheme is definitely off and I wasn't so thrilled once I got it home. The detailing could have been done better because it looks like they don't put a lot of time or effort into their die cast models. It would be nice if the lights could stay on for a more elegant display as well as the warp necels. They didn't add lights to the blue on the necels which sucks. I'd also like to see more lighting in windows which too makes a pretty impressive overall impact. . I don't care much for the sounds. But other then that it's ok. I'd like to see them do a much better version of this.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Star Trek Enterprise NCC-1701E (Toy)
I had waited for an opportunity to get this and now that I have it, I have to admit to being disappointed. As other reviewers have pointed out, the color scheme is inaccurate; it's made of off-white plastic with other colors painted on. The other colors wouldn't be bad, except for the fact that the plastic itself makes it look too toy-like (yes, I'm aware of the irony). Furthermore, the phaser banks on the upper side of the warp pylons aren't painted. Also, unlike other Art Asylum Enterprises, almost nothing on this lights up. Just the Bussard scoops, the impulse engines and the deflector dish are equipped with lights. Finally, the fit on my ship is very loose; there are huge (relatively speaking) gaps in many of the seams. One could look in and see Geordi and Wesley having their "who's the biggest nerd" contest quite easily.

Having already bought their (mostly excellent) Enterprise-D, I decided to go back and purchase Art Asylum's Enterprise-E. The company released these around 2006; the model itself looks like it did in Star Trek Nemesis and the sounds are mostly from that movie as well.
-AA created the mold for the ship from digital scans of the original, and it seems pretty accurate. While it's in scale with the D (actually, the D is in scale with IT, given the D came out in 2009), it still seems somewhat small. As mentioned by others, the paint scheme's contrast is off - I wish the plastic used for its overall construction was a light gray rather than off-white (though the ship does look white in parts of First Contact, the other colors blended better in that movie). It's not so much the white as the locations where it shows most, especially that ring around the saucer. I'm also not a fan of the "speckled" bluish gray scheme they used on the rest of the saucer, when they could have colored those sections a basic light gray (as is used on other parts of the ship). The tops of the nacelle pylons aren't painted but the bottoms are, which is strange. There are tons of molded-in windows around the ship but they're not painted in either. The plastic overall is somewhat thin, so light WILL bleed through during the sound effects, especially if you modify the model's bulbs (see below). -The stand is in the shape of the rectangular Starfleet symbol used since season 3 of DS9 (and therefore in all 3 movies featuring the Enterprise-E). It ends in a small ball at its peak which plugs into a hole on the bottom of the ship. This was a much nicer design than the ball-plus-cylinder used for the Enterprise-D (and the TOS and movie enterprises released prior to the E). The ball design was also used for AA's NX-01 toy. It allows for better poses while maintaining a good grip, and I wonder why they didn't keep using the design. The extra battery cover without the hole (available on the other ships) is not included. -The sounds are mostly from Nemesis, and are fantastic. They're loud and clear and distinct. As with other AA ships, you press the bridge dome to activate them one by one. Holding the dome down cycles through them, which is a cool feature since they work well together. On the Enterprise-D and TOS ships holding the button down turned on the lights by themselves, but here having the sounds and lights play in succession works in the toy's favor, as you get a complete set of battle sounds (including Captain Picard's commands). The lights don't just flash on when the sounds play, they're independent...for instance, during the "enemy attack" effect, you hear weapons hitting the ship and the lights go from bright to slowly flickering and dimming out, which is AWESOME. -What's not awesome are the lights themselves. AA used tiny, weak bulbs to light the ship, and what's worse, the plasma coils (blue parts of the engines) are not lit. This is a huge oversight, as the box shows those sections lit and there's plenty of room for wires and bulbs there. I found message boards and videos online that showed ships with modified lighting, which is what I did to mine. Replacing the stock bulbs with LEDs, and adding extra ones for the plasma coils and the bridge impulse engines (which were originally lit by the same bulb that lights the bridge area) really makes the ship come alive! Out of the box, the ship is somewhat small and disappointing. With some modifications to the lighting and paint (perhaps using a fine-tip pen to mark the windows) it will look a LOT better, though it's not easy and takes quite a bit of time and effort.

For anyone who, like me, absolutely fell in love with the Enterprise-E after seeing it in First Contact and subsequently in Insurrection and Nemesis, then you might want this. The whole ship is incredibly detailed with spot-on coloring for the most part. None of the windows are blacked-in as they should be (and are on the Enterprise-D made by Art Asylum) but it doesn't really detract from the look of it, surprisingly. Voices and sounds play and the bussard collectors and main deflector light up when you press the bridge, but there's no way to simply have the lights stay on like there is with the Art Asylum Enterprise-D. The voices and lights are a nice gimmick, but really, if you're going to pay this much for a Star Trek ship, odds are you're buying it for the ship replica, not to go "WHOOOOOSH" with it in the backyard. The balljoint stand is very stable, and you can pose it in several directions, or just straight and normal. For something designed as a toy (what with the sound effects and all), it's a fantastic recreation that's sure to please those who want a detailed and graceful Sovereign-class starship on their desk. It's a little pricey for the casual fan since it's usually 50 or up, but if you're a collector or a diehard fan of TNG, this isn't one to pass up.

Well, when i recieved the package, on time i might add, it didnt contain what it was supposed to, however when i contacted Redford Films, they refunded my entire purchase really quickly! I did end up buying one from a friend who had actually bought it from a similar seller.
I would say this ship is a toy, but not one for someone under the age of 6 due to how durable the plastic is. It is beautifully painted and very detailed. The lights that light after pressing the action button aren't as bright as they could be, due to it running on only 2 AAA batteries, but for the price it is a decent buy!

The Enterprise E was the ultimate technological marvel in the TNG universe! This toy, while a little too high in contrast for me, is a great replica, the nacelles don't glow like they should, they're overall too grey.
The Stand is great so far, and the button to activate noises activates depending on how long you hold the button for. No complaints yet, I'm surprised even the original batteries worked!!!! |
