5.0 out of 5 stars Entering A New Era
This is the first album the group released without the work of their long-time drummer, Alan Jackman. The sound of The Outfield continues to evolve on this release, gaining maturity as the albums roll by. This album contains the hit, "For You", a great song about complete devotion. 3.0 out of 5 stars Two Steps Back...
One of the first CD's I ever bought. The day I got my first CD player I bought The Beatles "White Album" and this one. And now that it's out of stock does that mean its a collectors item? All kidding aside, this one was a bit of a disappointment. What I loved on their first 2 albums was the great drumming of Alan Jackman. He's gone here a replaced with, well,...

This is the first album the group released without the work of their long-time drummer, Alan Jackman. The sound of The Outfield continues to evolve on this release, gaining maturity as the albums roll by. This album contains the hit, "For You", a great song about complete devotion. Some sleepers on this disc include "Burning Blue", and "Raintown Boys". Although the entire album is great, these are songs that stand out. I would recommend this album to anybody, as it upholds the tradtion of great rock by The Outfield.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very best of the best, September 14, 2000

I'm a great follower of this group and this album has been my only "missing issue" in the collection. I've heard it several times, recorded it in various ways, but still just need to have the original. Great mix of songs and one of the best sound recording in al of T.O. albums...waiting for the re-edition of this one (why haven't they!!??).

5.0 out of 5 stars The tradition of great music continues with Diamond Days, January 22, 2000

Perhaps one of the best albums by the British Band with the American sound.... This disc is full of treasures from "For You" which was the unofficial anthem of the Gulf War, to "Burning Blue", "Raintown Boys", and "After The Storm". Although this is the first album minus drummer Alan Jackman, the quality and sound of The Outfield has not diminished. If anything it has improved... If you don't have this disc but would like to experience the ever improving sound of the Outfield, buy it!

He's gone here a replaced with, well, a machine I guess since no drummer is listed. "For You" is the best track on here and honestly, there are some here that I just don't like. But, then again, not everything The Beatles put out I liked either, so...

Just thinking here, I know someone who only has this album on cassette and is desperate to get ahold of a CD of it. Maybe I'll send it to her ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good album. Recalls their Play Deep debut in some places, October 23, 2004
This review is from: Diamond Days (Audio CD)
After albums two and three didn't attract a lot of people, The Outfield's fourth album is a return to what made them stars in the first place. The first half of the album and the hit single "For You" starts kind of slow for a bit. But the album picks up in the second half, as I hear shades of Play Deep felt in the songs. Raytown Boys is one of the best rockers here; it kind of recalls the chords of Your Love a little bit. But no song on here stands out than that final one on the album, After The Storm. It's such a dramatic and dymanic performance with its dark and sonic landscapes and lots of lead guitar on this power ballad. One of the band's best written and arranged songs. Although this was their first for MCA after three albums with Columbia, the band really continued to make strong rock music with some pop leanings with this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Their forth best release, February 18, 2004

Not as energetic as their other material, but a fun sing-along cd. I don't like every track, but Burning Blue and After the Storm are excellent tunes. If you can buy this one for five or six dollars- do it. For You is a great song!

2.0 out of 5 stars Easily The Outfield's worst, July 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Diamond Days (Audio CD)
This cd has only 4 good songs on it and the others are definitely throw aways.

You probably heard "For You" - the cd's hit song and by far the best on it. Other good songs include "Unrespectable" and "One Night in Heaven". "Take it all" the second single was only so so (don't confuse with "Winning it all" off Rock-Eye).

The cd is more moody than the other Outfield cd's. It's kind of a depressing cd for them. Look at the Cd cover that tells it all.

The Outfield I like is much more upbeat. This cd is the Outfield trying to sound like the psychedelic Beatles (song titled "John lennon for example). It didn't cut it in my mind.

Keep in mind most people writing these reviews are Outfield fans. I like them too but am not a fanatic, but if you expect anything like "Play Deep" pass in this one. Try either "Bangin" or "Voice of Babylon" (recommended). I can't recommend this cd unless you are looking to complete your Outfield collection.
