Diamond Gen IV - Rechargeable No Battery LED Shake Flashlight - 2 Hour - Clear

I am a fan of LED light. I love my tiny Petzl Zipka head lamp. The Zipka's 3 little AAA batteries give decent (not great) brightness for 6 months! (I use mine ~2-3 hrs per week). So I had high hopes for this product, with its newer generation LED bulb and larger size. However, I find that an arm-numbing 3 minutes of vigorous shaking gives about 3 minutes of light! I literally timed it and found that with a 90 second shake (which they recommend) that it starts out brighter than my Zipka. But by 90 seconds of lighting, it is significantly dimmer. By 3.5 minutes there is not enough light to read by. Save your $25.

I had almost the same exact problem as the reviewer who received a defective flashlight. Mine came with the plastic case slightly open and the middle of the lens was scratched up. But the flashlight still worked, albeit not as advertised. At the very least, it is deceptive advertising. After an intense 3 min. shaking the flashlight starts out with a pretty bright light. But, as other negative reviews have stated, after about 1-2 minutes the light starts getting dim. There's a medium amount of brightness for about 5 more minutes. After 10 min. it becomes pretty useless unless you hold the flashlight right next to what you're looking at. Yes, technically it does last for 2 hours, but the light that emits from it after half an hour is just a barely noticeable glow.
I thought maybe mine was defective so I returned it and got a replacement. This time the plastic casing was secure and there were no scratches on the lens but the same problem existed with this replacement. I have charged this flashlight about 8 times, no less than 3 min. shaking each time and it just plain sucks. On the very last shake I shook it for around 10 minutes just to be sure it was fully charged and it still doesn't maintain brightness at all.
When you advertise a flashlight as lasting 2 hours, the average person is going to believe it's 2 hours of good useable light. To have this thing become useless after 10-15 minutes is pathetic and dishonest of the company. This flashlight would only be good in emergencies or as a backup. $30 is expensive for a flashlight and it should perform exceptionally well for that amount of money. This does not even come close. I know the concept of this flashlight sounds really cool and it's tempting to get one, but the product does not come through. Until they actually invent one that gives at least a half hour of maximum powered light, I'm staying away. I'm probably just going to buy one of those rechargeable spotlights (non-shake!)

This flashlight is not bright at all. Save your money with this one. It is not worth the money at all. I am very disappointed.

We just got it, I first gave it a 60 second shake and it worked fine, and I let it sit for a day and a half. It lit up again without shaking so the capacitor holds the energy a very long time. Shaking it for over a minute continuosly gave me a bright shine that lasts pretty long. We are in the Caribbean with literally no electricity most of the time without even moonlight. This works perfectly.

Rechargeable flashlights are a sensational idea - an essential part of any family's emergency kit (and ecologically smart to boot). While this product is satisfactory for, say, a science demonstration on the Faraday Principle, its usefulness as a flashlight is considerably more limited.

To its credit: This flashlight was meant to last, and will stand extremes of water and temperature. When dropped into water, it will float beam-side up for easy retrieval. It's so sturdy tha, it will likely last for the lifetime of the user - and you can't say that about too many products.

Shake this light for a while, and a disk of rare earth conducts enough current to sustain a light for a small amount of time. While you may read claims of up to one or two hours, a faint but workable current only lasts for about ten minutes, and then you shake again. And again. As long as you don't mind the repetition, the wan stream of bluish light will serve your purposes in a blackout or some other emergency. But don't entertain thoughts that you'll be able to read, find small objects, or perform any kind of detail work.

If you don't have a chance to compare this to its better competition, you might not know that say, the Sherpa Xray offers a well-focused beam you can read by. While no rechargeable can give you the kind of illumination you'll find in a traditional flashlight, your options are brighter if you stay away from the Diamond Gen. Invest in something more powerful and you'll find that a flashlight's usefulness becomes considerably greater.

This flashlight was disappointing, and useless in any practical context.

In the beginning the led seemed to stay bright for a considerable amount of time, but now after almost no use (except fooling with it) it doesn't remain lit for even 5 minutes. Very very poor buy.

This flashlight is simply awesome if you just have a little common sense. This is meant to be an EMERGENCY flashlight and if you use it as such, it is great. This is definately not a spotlight type of light and it isn't meant to be. But when you need some light in an emergency, a little shaking and you have some light. It's starting to dim? Just shake it some more and voila, more light. You could be lost miles from anywhere and you know your batteries are not going to go dead on the walk for help.
I don't know why people are giving this bad reviews. This is so easy my 6 year old niece can shake it and get it working. And if you are smart enough to shake it like the instructions say, the light will last longer then people on here are saying. If my 6 year old niece can figure it out, I would think that adults could too. But, there are always going to be people out there who complain about everything.
This is an emergency, no battery SHAKE flashlight. I think some people were expecting a flashlight that would shake itself.

You should keep one of these flashlights in your vehicles, campers, boats, kids rooms, etc. How many times have you went to get a flashlight and the batteries were dead and you couldn't find new ones? This one has worked everytime I have uesd it. But then again, I do have common sense.

This flashlight is Great!!

I've been playing with my Gen-IV 2-hour Diamond shake light and have to say at first, with only a couple 1-2 minute shakes the led light seemed dim and I was thinking " guess I got what I paid for." but after a few more charges I noticed the light was getting substantially brighter and lasting longer each time. It's now producing a brighter light than I ever anticipated and have it lasting over an hour. I've also discovered a great feature that I'm not sure even manufacture knows about! I was playing with it in my TV-room and had it up-right faced down on my coffee table. When I turned the lights out to watch a movie I noticed it has a light switch that glows in the dark. What a great feature, because when lights go out... we still have to find the flashlight first...right! Hats off to the people at Diamond for a great flashlight and a great deal!

As for the bad reviews: This is not a million candlepower spotlight. It's not even as bright as your standard quality 2D-cell flashlight. Yes, you do have to expend some energy charging it. IT'S AN EMERGENCY FLASHLIGHT!

As advertised, 1 1/2 minutes of shaking provides light that begins to fade out at 20 minutes, but lasts up to 2 hours. I've found it useful for up to an hour between charges. Initial light output is similar to battery powered LED keychain lights. Just enough to safely make your way from the house to the shed to haul out the generator, to change a tire, or to read a book on those nights the power fails.

Living on the side of a mountain where we frequently lose power for days, this is a cheap insurance policy. I will never find I have no batteries or a dead bulb.

The only problem i have with this flashlight is the front lens is plastic and easily scratched, but that's minor - just use lens paper for cleaning if it needs it.

When I received the flashlight it was broken I have tried to contact Mark Golden in Delray, Florida, the place the flashlight was sent from, and have heard nothing back this week.
