First of all, I vacillated between giving this a 4 or 5 star rating. It works great and is exactly what I was hoping for. The ONLY reason I didn't give it a 5-star rating is because it took a little bit of "playing around" and user guide reading to optimize it for my TV. I am using a Windows 7 Professional Lenovo B360 notebook with a Windows Experience Index of 3.9. Diamond's minimum requirement is for at least a 3.0.
So, let's look at the installation procedure. If you have Windows 7, throw away the booklet that came with the device and follow these steps. Connect the included HDMI cable from the WPCTVPRO to your TV. Connect the power cord. Turn on your computer and plug in the USB transmitter. Be patient while Windows detects the device, downloads, and installs the driver. Follow the prompts for installation. When finished, you're all done with the installation and you now have your desktop displaying on your TV! That gets a 5+ star rating for ease.
Now comes the optimizing it for your TV part. In my case, when I first viewed the display, my first impression was, "Oh no!" The desktop doesn’t fill the screen, but occupies a rectangle filling about 3/4 of the screen. For those in the same situation, relax, this can be corrected. Now, it would be nice if Diamond had been more obvious that you really needed to read the DisplayLink User Manual to set up the device for your situation and that there is a DisplayLink configuration utility icon in the System Tray, ONLY when all components are connected and on. OK, two things have to be accomplished now.
First, the reason you aren't getting a full screen TV display is because your computer doesn't have enough "Oomph" to run both displays.

I originally bought this item from a Fry's store near my home. It was an impulse purchase. I had been looking off and on for a device to push web browsing and webinars to the big screen and when I saw this item I was intrigued and figured "why not". Well I probably should have listened to myself when I said the "not" part because I spent hours trying to get this product to work.
First, the software seems buggy and archaic. There is no notification that the software had completed loading. When the software apparently finishes (and I do mean apparently) the only indicators that the software has indeed finished is by checking your hard drive LED for read and write activity, and watching the screen and waiting to determine if you've seen the last of the pop-ups. Really! How about a heads up like "FINI" or "DONE" or "You need to reboot your computer", which leads me to issue 2...
Secondly, the device was only recognized after a reboot. The instructions state that a reboot may be necessary, but after installing (and uninstalling) the device and software 4 times, I can safely and emphatically state "You need to reboot your computer". The laptop I tried to install the device on is a Toshiba Portege running Windows 7 Home 64 bit, with an Intel i3 CPU running at 2.4GHz, 4 GB Ram, and Intel HD graphics. I was attempting to push to a 55" Mitsubishi LED TV with 4 working HDMI ports. The laptop was located 15' from the TV and in "line of sight".
The first install displayed the laptop's background onto my TV and I liked what I saw. However, upon verifying the device settings using the "Diamond" utility window that came with device and exiting said utility, the connection was immediately lost.

this thing works great we absolutely love it. I have this hooked up to my Acer laptop with win 7 & my LG 42" HDTV with a Harman Kardon surround system. I did have a slight problem getting it to work at first but quickly realized it was caused by a faulty HDMI cord that came with it. I ended up using a VGA cable with audio plug and it worked. I mean it worked fantastic the video & audio sent from my computer to the TV came in crystal clear. its so nice to be able to watch music videos off you-tube & listen to itunes on my TV & sound system and not have to worry about someone tripping over a cord. now there is one very slight problem that I should mention. its not a problem for us but might be for someone else. when someone walks between the computer & tv the audio will cut out for a split second and if someone stands to close to the computer in front of the USB adapter or to close to the receiver on the TV the signal will be lost but will restart after a few seconds after the person moves away from it. also make sure your computer is at or above the requirements for this to work. this was well worth the money and I plan on buying another one for our Daughter. I forgot to mention the distance between my computer and tv is about 26 feet. also have the receiver out in the open NOT behind the tv or anything else it must have a clear signal between the adapter and the receiver to work properly. if using WIN 7 DO NOT INSTALL THE SOFTWARE DISK. installing the disk is for WIN 8,VISTA,XP if you install it for WIN 7 it will cause problems your computer will freeze up soon after its installed. with WIN 7 set up hook up the receiver to your TV if using a VGA cable you will need an audio cable as well. then plug in the USB adapter to your computer and follow the on screen set up and your good to go.Read more ›
