5.0 out of 5 stars Diamond (The Divas), March 13, 2008

First of all, I was so excited to see that Victoria Christopher Murrary has written a teen series for teenagers! Eventhough this is a "Teen Series" it really kept my interest. This book needs to be "The Teenage Handbook"! I can not wait to read about India, Veronique, and Aaliyah (The Divas). I will be letting everyone I know to read this book even if you are not a teen. Keep up the good work Victoria...

4.0 out of 5 stars Diamond Wants To Shine, March 5, 2008
This review is from: Diamond (Divas (Pocket Books)) (Paperback)
The Divas: Diamond by Victoria Christopher introduces readers to Diamond Winters. Diamond is an upper-middle class girl, who is pretty, smart, talented and athletic. However, she is consumed with being a star, being fabulous. She convinces her best friends, Veronique, India and Aaliyah to help her form a teen, Christian singing group. The idea of wining a quarter-million dollars and becoming fabulously famous is all Diamond can think of. She is absolutely certain they can enter an upcoming contest and win. Diamond convinces her friends, her parents and Pastor Ford, the minister at her church, that they can win and The Divine Divas are born.

As consumed as Diamond is with the group, she is also very interested in the very handsome Jason Xavier, known as Jax. However, there is one small complication, Jax is dating the captain of Diamond's dance team, Jayde. But Diamond is not one to allow anything to stand in her way. She is going to be a Diva, dance, date Jax and maintain the good grades her parents demand. Of course, there will be dramatic complications and problems will occur. Ms. Christopher Murray handles teen issues and concerns beautifully. She allows us to see Diamond experience growing pains, while learning life lessons. She has written a contemporary, Christian novel in the language young adults can relate to. She also sends a spiritual message without preaching.

The Divas: Diamond is a fun, timely novel that can be enjoyed by readers of all ages. I look forward to reading future novels narrated by the other Divas.

Diamond has always dreamed of being a star and now that a gospel singing contest gives her the chance she's been looking for, Diamond convinces her friends to form a group with her. While practicing for the contest Diamond also gets a coveted spot on the school dance team, meaning instant popularity. Diamonds seems to be getting everything she's ever dream for, even the sexy senior Jax but is it too good to be true? Diamond's friends seem to think so but have her affection for Jax clouded her judgment or will take her friends advice?

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, June 4, 2008
This review is from: Diamond (Divas (Pocket Books)) (Paperback)
I really liked this book and the message. Although it made me not want to have any daughters, so that I don't have to protect them from the stupid things men do and say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diamond is a real gem!, May 9, 2008
This review is from: Diamond (Divas (Pocket Books)) (Paperback)
I am convinced that Victoria Christopher Murray can write anything. I don't read young adult fiction, but I was curious to see what my writing idol was doing. I am impressed and knew I would be. Diamond is a great addition to the slim pickings of good, wholesome books for African American teen girls. I have sent every woman I know a link for this book, so they can begin to share this series with their daughters and relatives and friends.
