The directions, hints and tips for making a striking quilt with diamonds are easy to understand with Jan's detailed descriptions and photos. The gallery quilts are stunning and inspiring, and make you want to rush to the sewing room to start one of your own.

The Diammond Quilts & Beyond book has so much information that I've already re-read it three times. The project directions are well written and thorough. But the concept really inspires me to design an original diamond quilt - the "Beyond" in the title!

Jan Krentz's Diamond Quilts & Beyond: From The Basics To Dazzling Designs tells how to turn a quilt literally into a work of art, using Impressionist painting inspirations to translate to fabric with diamond patterns. Particularly notable is a gallery of quilts which feature hand-painted and diamond patterns, flowers and figures in diamond quilts, and much more. An inspiriting collection.

I learned about this book by watching an episode of "Simply Quilts". I've gotten a lot more out of rewatching that episode than I got out of the book. There are certainly beautiful pictures of completed projects, but they all tend to be for wall hanging, not for practical use. I'm in the beginning stages of making a king size diamond bed quilt and the book lacks in instructions for how to best put together such a large quilt. Yes, I can infer from the graphics in the book how to do it, but just a paragraph or two on how an expert in this design would do it would be very helpful. This will only be my 4th or so quilt and the others were smaller and simpler designs. When I looked this book to review it, I see there's now a diamond quilt book for beginners by the same author.
