I've read some negative reviews of Diamond Select toys, but they are usually few and far between. Now I have my horror story for their products. I have ordered every star trek ship from Diamond Selects 2012/2013 release. This was the 4th one I received, and the most disappointing. The manufacturing quality of the ship is alright (not great), but the most disappointing thing was opening up the package and finding the ship extremely dirty. Since the ship was packaged in the original Diamond Select box (not the display package, the from the factory box) I'm guessing that is how the ship was packaged. Yes, the package isn't air tight, but I don't think this level of dirt could make it through the holes in the package. A damp cloth took some of the dirt off, but a lot of it is so caked on the scrubbing with a cloth won't clean it. The dirt build up in the ridges of the ship will be very difficult and require a lot of detail work to clean (if it can be cleaned). I purchased this for display, and it really isn't up to par because of this. If I had bought this for a child to play with (it is supposed to be a toy), I wouldn't be comfortable giving it to the child. Who really knows what the black dirt and debris is?

Edit: So I just read a complaint about the dirt on Diamond Selects Facebook page. Diamond Select replied saying it was a design choice to make the ship look weathered and not like a toy. So their weathering is poor enough that some of it can come off with a damp cloth, someone else said they used an erase to get a lot of it off. So it isn't just mine, they are all "dirty". Poor design choice.

As other reviews have noted, there are problems with this Enterprise B. One of the biggest is that the side sticker actually says USS Excelsior rather than USS Enterprise B. The good news is that Diamond Select IS making an Excelsior for this fall (preorders are already up on some websites)! Hopefully that version will correct the problems of this ship. So my advice is to wait.

The latest reissue by Diamond Select from the old Art Asylum collectibles. This one has been tweeked a bit getting rid of some of the assembly flaws that supposedly plagued the original such as "USS EXCELSIOR" on the secondary haul now reads correctly "USS ENTERPRISE" on both sides, and facing correctly versus backwards on one end.
Paint job is nice, not going with a clean look, this has some weathering on it which made me wonder if it was actually a battle damaged variant that's been released and nope, it's fine.
So take the image here on the photo displayed and dull the colors down a few shades and that's what it should look like. It's not bright and vibrant, it's very toned and weathered on mine. However Diamond Select has been known to vary. My Enterprise Refit paint scheme sucked compared to what they showed and it was was stuffed in the wrong box.
This sucker was done right and puts a little bit more faith in DS.

Also, neat gimmick, hold the bridge button down for about 5 seconds and the whole ship lights up a VERY bright blue and red that doesn't seem to have a timer to best of my knowledge. A feature that should be done on all these ships imo.

Let me start by commenting on how exceptionally detailed this replica is compared to other versions of the Enterprise which were produced by Diamond Select. Wonderful presentation and demonstration model of the on-screen Enterprise-B in the Star Trek Generations film which was the final appearance of Kirk. Special attention was paid to detail including the lighted array which was non-existent on Diamond Select's version of the NCC-1701A and I felt would have complemented that incarnation of the Enterprise better. This replica is not perfectly detailed in every way but darn near close and for the dough is well worth the investment. Any more detailed and you would be kicking the engine nacelles before buying it and taking it out for a test run. The lighted effects make it that more realistic not to mention the myriad of sound effects which it produces. I can truly say I feel proud putting it in its own special place on display for everyone to see.

ENTERPRISE B! What can I say about you? Hmm Well as the title states this is a love and hate relationship.

Let's see, This is the second ship I have received, the first was the Diamond Select Electronic Klingon Bird of Prey. Continuing with this review, otherwise I would end up talking about the Bird of Prey.

So the Enterprise B feels cheaply made with cheap plastic. Not sure if it was made with the same material as the Klingon Bird of Prey but it feels like a lower quality plastic, either that or it's due to the amount of details and design in the Klingon Bird of Prey that makes it a little difficult to tell. The stand practically SUCKS, no offense but the stand does not fit with the ship at all. When I place the ship on the stand it wobbles so bad that I don't dare to touch it. My first and second time in gently pressing the button for the sound effects on the ship on top of the stand caused it to tip over, And as it sits there it still wobbles from time to time as I walk by. A slightly poor quality in sound effects, it doesn't compare to the Klingon Bird of Prey. The paint job is poor. I am not sure if part of someone's fingerprint is supposed to be part of the design or not but yes there is a small piece of finger print on the ship along with smudges of black spots that seem like accidents around the ship. The yellow lights in the front go further then they should as it fades into white which seemed like it should've stopped before reaching the bottom piece of the ship saucer. The paint job details all around the ship looks cheap and flat with barely any details.
