Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Shinichi Suzuki was not always "Dr. Suzuki". What was he like as a kid? Where did he grow up? How did he handle the class bully? When did he first play the violin? (You might be suprised to know!) Why did he want to teach children? Why did he live in the mountains during World War II? To find out about the real guy, read "Diamond in the Sky"!

About the Author

Jerlene Cannon lives in Evansville, Indiana with her husband, four children, a dog, and a cat. She was a technical writer before she became a Suzuki mom.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for all Suzuki students, February 25, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Diamond in the Sky (Paperback)
I ordered this book to be used for research for my two young children who play the violin. They were to prepare a report for a composer's fair and Shinichi Suzuki was their composer. The book is a nice read for young children who are trained through the Suzuki method. My children have enjoyed very much learning more about Dr. Suzuki.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice little book, January 3, 2007

This review is from: Diamond in the Sky (Paperback)
I bought this book hoping to motivate my 6 year old son in his violin practice. While I can't say that this particular book has had the impact on his practicing that I would have liked, we did enjoy reading it together. Sinichi was an excellent example of how we should live our lives, caring for others and working to improve ourselves always, and I was glad to be able to read with him an account of Dr. Suzuki's life with a book geared towards children. I would also add that an older elementary school child might enjoy this book more, perhaps 2nd to 6th grade.
