Anatomy of a Glove
Gloves are designed to perform a relatively simple task--catch a ball. The quality of materials and craftsmanship that can go into a building a glove, however, can be surprising. Below is an overview of a glove's components and how each helps optimize your defensive game:

As mentioned above, age and position are the most significant factors in selecting a proper glove size. Outfielders need larger gloves with deeper pockets for maximum "catchability," while infield gloves are smaller and have shallower pockets for optimal control and speedy ball removal. Some pitchers opt for infield gloves that are slightly larger than standard, yet small and shallow enough for rapid fielding and throwing. Most younger players will benefit from youth-sized gloves that help with control, and it's a good idea to resist the temptation to buy a larger glove the child will grow into.
The tables below offer a general guideline for proper glove size by sport, position, and age.

I bought this mit for my grandson. He plays Little League Rookies. He uses it at catcher and first base. He can catch any thing with this mit. It is not legal for the infield except first base. He uses it any way some folks don't know the rules and some don't care if he uses it instead of his regular glove.

My 10 year old son typically plays catcher about 4 innings every game (6 inning games 2 per week plus practice) and is playing Fall ball for the first time this year. We had been using a team glove provided by the league but it was time to step and buy our own glove so we could practice over the summer. The glove fits great. The Velcro closure across the back of the wrist allows for substantial room to grow. The glove was fairly well broken in when we got it (far better than expected). A little glove oil and a few hours of working it in made it even better. We store it with a ball inside and rubber bands around it to just keep the shape even better. The padding is substantial and I no longer hear about the sting after catching a fast one. My son loves the classic, throw-back look, and it's a whole lot better than the team glove or even our coaches catcher's glove. It's a great glove and better than we expected. It also didn't hurt that it was PRIME eligible so the 2-day shipping was "free".
