1.0 out of 5 stars Short Lived Card, Terrible Customer Service, February 8, 2010
This review is from: Diamond Viper Radeon HD4870 512 MB GDDR5 XOC Black Edition PCI-E (Personal Computers)
Where to begin... I originally purchased this card last November (2009). The card seemed to handle just about anything i could throw at it.. however after about 3 months I started to get periodic system crashes when running games. I figured it was just that the chipset was relatively new and there were new drivers coming out every month or so. Once "The Sims 3" came out and we started trying to run that game is when everything went bad. I contacted Diamond Multi-Media to try to get some assistance with the issues I was seeing and waited.... and waited.... and waited... for over a month. Finally I tracked down a phone number to call (hidden on their website) and got a support technician on the phone (after 25 mins on hold.)I will not bore you with the ensuing back and forth that happened over the next 3 months but there were 2 "video card bios" updates and I ended up sending the card back twice... at my expense. Finally I had to tell them to NOT send me the same card back. A few weeks later I received a totally different video card. Not what I paid for and not even a better card. In fact it was a basic model Diamond 4870 512Mb. So not only was I without a video card for 4 months total I ended up with a cheaper card than the one I purchased. The moral of the story is that I will NEVER buy a single Diamond Multimedia product again for as long as I live.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME CARD, October 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Diamond Viper Radeon HD4870 512 MB GDDR5 XOC Black Edition PCI-E (Personal Computers)
Absolutely a great card. Plays all the games I have without a hassle. It can handle Crysis with all all setting set to very high with no anti-aliasing (unless you want some lag) at 1400x900 and 30+ fps.

With a good setup of fan case and the new 8.10 drivers that let you control the fan, this card run smooth with no temperature problems.

it doesn't come with stickers :(

If you want to get a Radeon 4870, this is a very good choice.

Suggest that you have 4gb ram and a quad core processor so that everything can be used to it's best potential.

1.0 out of 5 stars This Card is a "Heater", September 19, 2008
This review is from: Diamond Viper Radeon HD4870 512 MB GDDR5 XOC Black Edition PCI-E (Personal Computers)
Do not even think about getting this card. This card delivers such a heat that can burn a piece of paper if it's near the Graphics card, I never noticed such a heat degree in all the other cards. I got 80c temp on Idle and 87c on load and when I play Crysis this thing crushes down it starts with dots then noise then a black screen. I don't recommend this piece of junk and I'm gonna return it.

Thank you ATI and AMD for the "HEAT"
