3.0 out of 5 stars Strange power choices, July 17, 2007
This review is from: Diamond Viper ATI X1950PRO AGP 512MB Video Card (Personal Computers)
Although this is an AGP card, the power connector which is required

to run the card, is a six-pin slot. Most, if not all AGP motherboards

use power supplies with four-pin connectors. I had to use two Y-adapters

off my hard drives to connect to a power adapter which converted to

a six-pin connector. Ended up buying 3 adapters just so I could use

the card. Very poor engineering, in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best for AGP system & best among x1950pro AGP, May 14, 2007

This review is from: Diamond Viper ATI X1950PRO AGP 512MB Video Card (Personal Computers)
probably best agp card for money. probably fast enough for most. the quality of the card was great. as usual, amazon.com provided a great service.

unfortunately, it was not compatable with the system i had because of the power supply (350w). probably 400w is the minimum power supply unit you have to have for this unless other parts of your pc are not using much as my p4 system was already using way too much to have this card.

there are alternatives to this card that are consiered as faster agp cards, but usualy they will cost about $[...] more than this

unlike only known x1950xt agp which only comes with 256mb vram, but this one comes with 512mb & runs cooler & uses less power.

unless you are a big fan of nvidia, 7950gt is not running faster (some applications do, and some other applications don't), but uses less power & runs cooler, but for the small benefit, it will cost about $100 more than x1950pro 512mb diamond

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT, December 4, 2007

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Diamond Viper ATI X1950PRO AGP 512MB Video Card (Personal Computers)
This thing is incredible, especially for the price. Runs games like Quake4 and World of Warcraft effortlessly in 1920x1200 and with great detail. Diamond provides the standard ATI Catalyst drivers without any Diamond Multimedia branding. Definitely a plus as ATI is regularly sending out updates that will be fully compatible.

There are a few cautions I will give before you purchase this product... If none of them are an issue for you then I highly recommend you get it:

1. It requires a 6-pin PCIE power connector. Most AGP based PC's do not have this connector so you may end up needing to get an adapter.

2. If you've done your homework, you have checked out the system requirements (available on Diamond's web site). This video card has power supply requirements. Diamond's site states that it requires a "450-Watt power supply or greater, 30 Amps on 12 volt rail recommended (assumes fully loaded system)". Interestingly once I received the product, I noticed that the box states it requires a 550 watt power supply with 38A on the 12 volt rail. I am running a 500W supply with 14A/15A on two 12V rails and it seems OK. Be aware that you might need to upgrade. If so, make sure the new power supply you get has the 6-pin PCIE connector and you won't need to worry about issue #1.

3. This video card is of standard thickness and shouldn't be a problem taking up only it's own AGP slot without protruding into adjacent ones. However, it is very long. It will basically take up the entire width of an ATX motherboard. If there are any obstructions in your system you might consider a different product.

4. FAN NOISE: It's not the loudest, nor the softest... as far as noise goes it's not too bad but if you are into silent PC's you will probably want to invest in a different cooling system.
