Product Description

Is it about performance or is it about envy? Only you know the true answer. Either way the Podium 6 is the stuff that dreams are made out of. First comes the all new, AMMP full carbon monocoque road racing frame and CFT Carbon Podium fork that is lightweight without compromising the nimble feel that every race bike should have. Second comes the FSA SLK Light Racing Double Press Fit 30 Crank set for enhanced stiffness and better pedaling efficiency. Next comes the Shimano Ultegra derailleurs, brakes, pedals, and 10-speed dual control shifters for precise shifting and pedaling equating to more power at the helm. (Is your mouth watering yet?) Now, add in an Easton stem, carbon bar and post, and a set of Easton Aero wheels and, BOOM! (Don't worry we were drooling at this point too!)

I ordered this bike and it came extremely well-boxed. The box was sturdily-constructed and the padding did its work. Nothing was scratched or warped. Taking the bike out of the box, all the decals were perfectly placed and the bike came almost completely assembled. There were a few drips in the finish, but they were in hard-to-reach spots and are unnoticeable to the eye. The bars were taped, the cables routed, and the wheels mounted. All I had to do was bolt-on the handlebars, drop-in the seatpost, and put the wheels on.

However, I would STRONGLY suggest taking this to a good shop for the build. Why? Quite a few bolts were not properly tightened during the factory build. To make matters worse, the factory didn't seem to use any thread-lock. A good shop will use thread-lock on most of the bolts and a torque wrench on all the important ones. This is especially important with all the carbon parts. The factory also assembled all components without carbon build-up compound. A really good shop will use this compound during the build to ensure all the carbon parts don't shift. Finally, a shop will check the alignment of the drop-outs, components, and frame to ensure there was no shipping damage.

Some notes about the included components. I'll start with the bad first. The wheels are good, durable wheels for things like commuting or riding on rough dirt roads. But they're pretty heavy. Okay, they're really heavy. I swapped them out right away. As for the rest, the parts list is pretty impressive. Wherever possible, they used Shimano Ultegra except for the crankset. Don't get me wrong, Ultegra is really nice stuff. Several National Championships have been won on it. But the FSA SL-K Light cranks they used are a big step up.

Verified Purchase
I purchased my 2012 Podium 6 in mid August. After over 400 miles of riding on chip and seal country roads, I am exceptionally happy with this purchase. With that, here are my impressions:
1.)Packaging/assembly - arrived in good condition. Assembly was straight forward requiring only a torque wrench, 4,5,and 6 mm allen bits, a needle nose pliers, and some friction lube. For those without a torque wrench, a trip to your LBS for a little assembly QA would be a good investment.
2.) Riding impressions - At just over 16 lbs, it feels stiff, responsive and very smooth. I am a big (200 lbs) rider yet notice little bottom bracket flex when grinding on big gears. Road buzz is minimal and comparable to my 18 lb carbon forked steel bike.
3.) Components - Ultegra 6700 brakes and derailleurs provide reliable performance and are bullet-proof as is FSA SL-K crankset. Mid Level Easton EA70 components are nice, if not spectacular. Easton Aero wheels are bit heavy but roll well. Only complaint is the proprietary Diamondback saddle. Worst of both worlds: not light, not comfortable.
4.) Overall - At just over $2300, the Podium 6 delivers, in my mind, tremendous bang for the buck. Upgrade the wheels and change the saddle and you have a bike worthy of competing on race day against bikes costing nearly twice as much.

Size Name: 50 cm Frame
I ordered one direct from Diamondback and I love this bike, except I ordered one size too large. Looking for a 54cm Frame/Fork to replace my 56cm, but finding one is near impossible.

Size Name: 58 cm Frame Verified Purchase
This is my first true road bike and I have been very pleased with my purchase. Other than a saddle change (Adamo Typhoon) I could not ask for more from a bike.
