This is a very nice bike, packed nicely, was put together easily, I wouldn't have known how to adjust the brakes, no directions, but my hubby did :). It's great quality, but no kickstand so I'll have to buy one. My 8 year old loves the color its a pearly-pink, she is 4'5" with a 24" inseam and this bike is great for her, the 24" bike would have overwhelmed her because biking has been a challenge to her and she just learned to ride with no training wheels, but the seat is raised about what it shows in the picture(more then halfway up the bar) it can still be raised up a bit but you may opt for the Octane 24" if your child is close to this size or any bigger(go by inseam). I'm hoping she gets a couple years out of it, but I plan to pass it down to my 4 year old when she's about 6, so its a great buy for me in the longrun anyway. Its a dream compared to the cheap toy store bike she learned on, the old bike was heavy and awkward and by the time she was comfortable handling it she was way too big for it, I wish I had bought her a quality bike to begin with and maybe she would have learned easier, I'm very pleased I bought this bike enstead of going back to the toystore for a cheap one. The alluminum frame makes it lightweight and easy to handle.

I bought this bike for my daughter almost 2 years ago and it still looks brand new! It's very well built and easy for my daughter to use! I highly recommend it!

My daughter loves her new bike. It was worth the extra money for the quality components. The directions are useless, & the "tools" were missing. Good thing I have knowledge of bicycles, having assembled & maintained a motorized mountain bike in the past. I also own both standard, & metric allen tools which you need. After adjusting the brakes, & making sure everything was in order. This is a smooth, & easy to ride bike! The 5 stars is for the bike overall. The other issues are well below the top rating! I wouldn't try setting this bike up at home, unless you feel comfortable with bicycle tune ups & have good tools.

We got this bike for our 8yr old daughter for Christmas. She had an old bike that was getting too small for her yet she still had trouble riding it without the training wheels so I wanted to get her something nicer and not from a toy store like the old one hoping it would make a difference for her. The Difference was amazing, she hopped on this bigger bike on Christmas morning and took off like there was nothing to it. The bike is very light which I think made a big difference. The bike is very well made and you can tell just by looking at it how nice it is. The brakes are very nice (even Grandpa was impressed)and the shifter is very solid. It does not come with a kickstand but that was an easy and inexpensive fix, we got a black one that looked like it came with it. My daughter loves how beautiful it is and how easy it is to ride. I will definitely buy a diamond back again when my younger daughter is ready for her first bike.

Bought my 7-1/2 year old this new bike about 2 weeks ago now. Arrived very quickly with the free shipping. Saw other write-ups about hard twist shifter and impossible to move front shocks. Thought I would give my first impressions as I own my own high-end mountain bike which has Shimano equipment and SRAM Rock Shox front & rear supsension. Overall the bike build quality is very good: solid welds, good paint quality, and very good brakes. It does not weigh too much either. It took me about an hour or so to put it together: mostly assembled except the front head-set, front tire, saddle, and foot pedals. For some reason, the front forks were bound up, but after working side-to-side a while, it freed up - assume it needed to work the lubricant around (local bike shop also said this is a part that needs internal lubrication. The front shocks need to be lubricated to make them work better. I already had "Judy" butter for my other bike, so I just applied some and worked it in pressing down on the handlebars with my weight. It works as intended then. My daughter is quite impressed because it looks and works just like "daddy's" bike which she really admires. The twist shifter is not bad. It is a little hard to get back into 1st gear which is partly a matter of adjusting the rear derailleur settings. I was fiddling with it tonight and got it working okay, but you have to know what you are doing. There are ample instructions from Shimano, but you need a magnifying glass to read the small print. You can always take the bike to a shop to have it tuned-up if you are not mechanically inclined. This is a good idea anyway because they will oil your cables and chain, etc so everything is in tip top shape. A bike should be well maintained. If you prefer to buy a pre-assembled bike from one of the big box stores, don't expect to get anything nearly as good. It will essentially be a simple bike with very limited adjustments and no-name parts. Good luck with your shopping!

My daughter and I loved the bike. She doesn't ride well yet, so I purchased training wheels, but they simply will not stay on. Thus, I recommend that you purchase a bike with training wheels before you purchase this one. I am teaching her to ride, and since she's worried about her knees, I predict it will take 7 months or so! :) That said, the bike is light enough for her to drop without dropping it on herself when she feels herself falling over. The brakes work well, and overall, I think it's a good purchase.

My little girl is 7 years old, about 75 pounds, and 51" tall. I don't believe we could have picked a bicycle that would have been a better fit, she'll also have plenty of time on it as we can adjust as she grows.

It was very easy to assemble, took me about 30 or 40 minutes.

This is a very good quality bicycle, much more so than all we looked at locally for about the same price and even quite more at some places.

We're very happy with this choice and would highly recommend.

This bike was a Christmas present for my 7 year old. She loves it! Good quality, as nice looking as the picture and fairly easy to put together. The only down side is shifting the gears is a little tough for her. It's a pretty stiff set-up. Overall, we are pleased and so is she!

This is the third 20" girl's multi speed mountain bike I've bought, and I think the best. The tires are more suitable for the type of riding kids do. Easy to assemble. One potential negative, the black rims make it a bit less girly.
