4.0 out of 5 stars Great bike but.., April 11, 2011

This review is from: Diamondback Response Comp Mountain Bike (2011 Model, 26-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
As already mentioned, the specs listed are not correct. Correct are listed below:

The bike that comes is still a great bike. The SR-suntour XCR for has a remote lockout which works great. While rockshox are more well known, the fork has handled anything I've thrown at it. The only dissapointment in the bike so far is the wheels are a little less than 'great'. Stock wheels tend to be crap most the time, but these gave out on my first real trail ride. Taco'd with little to no force. Otherwise, its a great spec'd bike for the cost. The hydarulic brakes work adequatly and the shifting is nice and smooth. Overall a great bike for anyone new to the sport.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2008 Model Response, April 30, 2010
This review is from: Diamondback Response Comp Mountain Bike (2011 Model, 26-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
Great bike, I'm a "clysdale" as bikes are built, and I'm very hard on bikes, bought this bike when I was Active Duty and living in Germany, put a good 250 miles of Mountain riding on it then moved to Florida, since being here I updated teh pedals, and the bars, that's it, all it needed.

I do remember the disk breaks needing to be heated up alot when they were new, but they work GREAT now, will throw you over the bars if you hit them too hard.

I'm 240 pounds and have jumped repedively off 30-50ft drops in the mountains with no blown tires, or bent rims, the only complaint I have left to fix would be I want a bigger rock shock for the front:)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bike for MTB lovers!!!, April 27, 2011

I bought this bike for occasional rides, but after some few rides I just cannot stop ride it. The components for this model (2011) are very good and the brakes work great, the front suspension has a nice remote lockout that works very well, but it is heavy. The bike geometry is nice and the bike is so comfortable.

The only con so far is that the bike is a little bit heavy (because of the front suspension). But this bike is definitely worth the price, if you compare the same accessories and components on different brands you will notice that there is not a better option (try it!)

I do recommend this bike, nice, well priced and strong.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this bike after read a lot of comments. When I get the bike, is not the same model as they descript in the announce. Mine comes with sountour and not with rockshok, shimano components and oil breaks. Actually I prefer this model. Is with 27 speed, deore and more. Great product, great look and great components for this price.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT MOUNTAIN BIKE AT A GOOD PRICE, October 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This bike arrived at my office from Amazon in a well packaged box. While unpacking I was very happy with the quality of the bicycle. I have done a lot of welding in my life and I was amazed at the quality of the aluminum welds that were on the bicycle. The quality of the parts that are on the bicycle were beyond my expectations. I am a 57 year old man who has ridden bikes since I was a kid. I have not ridden bikes daily in the last 25 years but occasionally. My wife and I have recently started riding on weekends in state parks. The parks in my state have lots of bike trails. My previous bike is a non shock equipped Japanese bike. On a recent outing on a state park bike trail while riding my Japanese bike I realized while vibrating my teeth together that I was anxious to receive my Diamondback I had on order to see how it compared. The very next weekend I went back to the same place after having received my new Diamonback Response comp to compare it. Trust me, there was no comparison, my new Diamondback was in a league all it's own. I purposely ran up big rocks that I had avoided the week before. The first time I did it I was completely surprised to not even feel that rock at all. I am not kidding. I stopped a little further and told my wife what had just happened and she said she knew because she is enjoying her Diamondback that I had bought for her the previous week. This is my first shock absorbing bicycle and I am really impressed. I am an old dirt motorcycle racer and rough terrain is not new to me. I can say I am very happy with this bicycle. I like the shock lock out this bike has on it for quick acceleration on hard surface if I want. The disk brakes are amazing, also my first on a bicycle. These brakes will stop you immediately if you want. These are hydraulic like motorcycles I have owned and like the ones on the airplanes I fly, only these are a smaller slimmer version of course. The gear shifter is amazing. Pull the lever once shift one gear quickly, pull again the same. I have been used to the old lever type where you move the lever trying to shift one gear at a time but changing to more than one gear because of the inaccuracy of that system. I can't compare this bicycle to any other mountain bike because this is my first, but I can't imagine there is any that are far superior. This bike is considerably less heavy than my chromoly steel Japanese bicycle

4.0 out of 5 stars Great bike!, July 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Diamondback Response Comp Mountain Bike (2011 Model, 26-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
Awesome bike for beginner/intermediate mountain bikers! This is an unbeatable deal for the components it has (Go and check other brands, all of them are near US$1000). I've been riding this mtb for a few months now and it has behaved flawlessly over all type of trails. The only complain I have is the original cassette (Alivio) and chain (wore them out in less than 400 miles), I upgraded them to Deore series. The components posted by Amazon are not accurate (probably are the 2010 specs, go to the Diamondback website to check them), but the picture is ok (model 2011). Did I mention that the design and color of the bike are remarkable?

Been on this now for a couple of weeks and I'm very happy thus far with the quality. There were a couple of packaging issues that resulted in a few scrapes, some missing pieces but no major deal. Assembly was straightforward and kind of fun! Its a definite improvement over my 15 year old Trek that was falling apart. Better climbing and smoother descents are making riding much more enjoyable. If you're on a budget and not a hard core rider, I'd highly recommend. Only complaint is an aesthetic one... I don't much care for the white wheels and grips - a little gaudy in my opinion. But no deal breaker. Oh, and I wish we built these in the states. Guess "made in China" is here to stay!
