Product Description

Purchasing the right off-road bike or commuting bike can be difficult, especially if the terrain you need to cover requires performance on various road surfaces. Enter Diamondback’s Trace Series Dual Sport bike. With mountain bike-like geometry and the efficiency of larger 700c diameter wheels, these bikes are ready for anything from pavement to gravel and back again. Semi-knobby tires give you the traction you need on dirt and rocks yet roll faster than traditional knobbies. The Trace is our entry level model in the Trace Series. All Traces feature a 6061-T6 Butted Aluminum Dual Sport Frame with formed top and downtubes, forged drop outs, and an integrated chainstay disc brake mount. The component assortment for the Trace is well suited for the entry level or budget conscious rider while not sacrificing on quality. The Dual Sport fork dampens vibrations and hits from the ground, keeping your hands from getting numb as you maintain control on tricky surfaces. SR Suntour also provides a great crankset option with the XCT model featuring a chainguard and 28/38/48t rings. Drivetrain comes courtesy of a blend of Shimano goods including TX51 dual pull front derailleur, an Altus rear derailleur, Shimano EF-51 Easyfire 7spd shifters, and a Shimano HG-20 (12-32t) 7spd cassette. The wheels are a critical part of any dual sport bicycle. For the Trace we made no exceptions and spec’d this bad boy with 32h Weinmann SL-7 Doublewall rims laced to SL-7 Alloy hubs. Innova DualSport 700x40c tires are wide enough for the dirt and have a semi slick tread for variable conditions. Tektro Novela mechanical discs handle the stopping duties very well, with 6” rotors.

This is a great bike for the money.(it was great at $499.00, at the current price it is awesome!) It has features costing much more on other bikes.
A very stylish looking bike, I get comments wherever I ride, Being a dual sport it is a heavier bike, Very ruggedly built but easy to ride
Requires some basic mechanical knowledge with bikes as it needs partial assembly, brake adjustments and possible gear adjustments. If you are not familiar with bike mechanics I would advise paying your local bike shop to assemble and adjust it for you. It will save a lot of headaches.

I bought this for $369 (UPDATE: ITS IS NOW $349 dang it) via Amazon Prime. This is the lowest price thus far on Amazon and $80 cheaper than the sale price at Dick's. This bike comes in a range of sizes making it easy to get a good fit. It needs some assembly of the major components but all of the cables, brakes, pads, levers, etc are all in place. It took about 45 minutes at a very leisurely pace. Most bike shops and sporting goods stores will assemble a bike for about $25 (including Dick's) so even with assembly it is a great buy.

Other reviews did a good job summing up the technical details and I agree with almost all of them. but any of the negatives all of which were fairly minor are trumped by this price. This is a very nice bike and very solidly built. Most of the components are middle of the road for a higher priced bike but are quality name brands. It rides great, shifts and brakes smooth. Tires are a nice size (not fat or skinny) with a medium tread which makes it good for road and light trail work.

Very Nice Quality Bike, just a little on the heavy side. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a dual purpose bike.

This was my first "real" bike. My first actual bicycle was when I was 15 and it was never really used very much. (Getting interested in cars and girls and all...). I was a bit anxious about receiving this bike. I had limited tools available and wasn't sure what to expect, or if I'd be able to assemble it. I was pleased to discover that the bike comes with a set of hex keys and wrench needed for assembly. The few other tools needed most people have around the house and I won't bother listing. The bike comes well packaged and once removed, assembly went by with no real traumas (Total time, less than three hours). Till it came time to fill the tires with air. This bike uses a Presta valve (new to me). There it sat fully assembled, ready to go but no air in the tires and nowhere around with a pump that fit it. Invest in a good air pump that fits a Presta valve before yours arrives.
Since I had no way of filling the tires and checking the pressure, I bought Schrader adapters for the valves. Two days later I discovered that the Presta valve end had broken on the rear tire. This required a whole new inner tube. I was pressed for time and cash so I purchased a cheap tube. The next day it had a small puncture. After patching it, all seemed well till it blew like a shotgun. I had the "joy" of walking my new bike many miles home. A much better inner tube was purchased and since then I haven't had any more tire problems.
Always buy quality.
The tires on this bike are 700c x 40, while the rims call for 28 to 38 (millimeter). I would have preferred a narrower tire. Most of my riding is on asphalt and concrete which a lower contact patch, as well as less aggressive tread, seems a better choice.
I plan to make the change once the tires included need replacement, which may be a while.

I just purchased this bike last week and I am giving three stars because I had trouble with the contents of the delivery. I had to return the bike twice, twice because the frame was scratched and front wheel not true. On the final delivery the wheel was true but the same scratch as on the first two orders was there. I decided to ignore it since I still feel that the bike is a good deal. Another problem came up when I tried to adjust the rear caliper so that disk was spinning freely. When I did this the bolt stripped. I used the same hex that was used to adjust the front break and the 1st rear brake bolt. I had to disassemble the rear break completely to get the bolt out and went to home depot to get a replacement ($1.50). It is not a big deal but I didn't expect to have so much trouble with a new product.

I will modify my review when I ride the bike 5 miles each way to work.

I researched and test rode several other bikes and figured I would take a chance with purchasing this over the internet.
I was not real impressed with the bike shops and what they had to offer, and especially the way the bikes were tuned.
The box it was delivered in looked like it was in a war and was ripped, dented and had punctures, But bike came out of it flawlessly, it took a couple of hours to assemble and it did not come with the metric Allen wrench required to assemble it, but overall it seems like a real nice bike and did test ride with it, and I like it much better than the higher end bikes I test rode, Kona, Jamis and it seems most compatible to the raleigh misceo 2.0. And I also found out that raleigh also owns diamond back bikes but distributes them over internet and also through dealers.
Also I was reading some of the complaints from other reviews and there was some complaints of parts on bikes having problems, Most parts on this bike are also available directly from amazon very reasonable and also with positive reviews.
